CDW Weekly Wrap-Up

May 13, 2022

A Message from Ms. Santa

Although testing is not over yet, I want to take this time to commend the CDW students on a job well done this week. The students have completed the NJSLA-Math assessments, and on Monday, they will finish what is left of the NJSLA-English Language Arts units.

Grades 5 and 8 will then conquer the NJSLA-Science assessments to finish 2021-2022 NJSLA standardized testing.

*If your child(ren) missed a unit due to an absence, Dr. Sullivan will schedule a time for him/her to complete the assessment in the upcoming weeks.

Keep working hard, Knights! Your teachers are proud of you!

At the bottom of each CDW Weekly Wrap-Up are upcoming, important dates!

New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) continues next week!

Each spring, the state of New Jersey administers the NJSLA to all students in grades 3-8. The CDW students will participate as follows:

Grades 6 and 7

  • Students in Grades 6 and 7 will participate in the NJSLA for Language Arts and Math between May 9th and May 16th.

All students in grades 5-8 will need headphones or earbuds, which cannot be wireless, for these assessments. If your child does not have a pair of headphones or earbuds at school, please send in a pair from home.

The only electronic device students are permitted to use during NJSLA is a Chromebook provided by the school. If your child has a cell phone, smartwatch, or any other electronic device, it will need to be turned off and in his/her locker during the testing sessions.

If you have any questions regarding NJSLA, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email at

If you have interest in joining the PTO Board, joining or running a committee, or just want to learn more- please reach out to the PTO by visiting and selecting "Contact Old Tappan PTO" under the Help tab.

COVID-19 Reminder

If Your Child is Not Feeling Well

  • has a fever. Students should be fever-free for 24 hours without medication prior to returning to school.
  • is nauseous or is vomiting.

Due to Covid-19, if your child comes to school with the following symptoms, Mrs. McCarthy, our school nurse, will call you to pick up your child from school:

  • At least two of the following symptoms: fever, chills, rigors, myalgia, headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, congestion or runny nose; OR
  • At least one of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new olfactory disorder, new taste disorder.

Any student who falls into one of the categories above will be required to have a negative Covid-19 test to return to school. If your child has a chronic illness with one or more of the above symptoms, please contact Mrs. McCarthy so she is aware.

Anytime your child is not feeling well, and will not attend school, please contact Mrs. McCarthy at 201-664-1475 ext. 2103.

Travel Quarantine Requirements- updated

The CDC has updated its guidelines regarding international travel. Starting November 8, students who travel internationally will not be required to quarantine following their return to the United States. The United States is requiring a negative Covid-19 test to re-enter the US (from any international destination), so quarantine will not be required. We still ask for families to monitor their child(ren) for symptoms upon their return and quarantine if symptoms surface.

You may visit the CDC Travel Website HERE.
