All Things SLI
Silver Lake Intermediate Oct 15, 2021
SLI Families:
It's finally feeling a little bit like fall. With the cooler temperatures, please make sure your child has a sweatshirt/jacket for the chilly days that are upon us.
Thank you to everyone who was able to participate in our Emil's Pizza Fundraiser. Currently, our students have the opportunity to design a label for the upcoming Stone Creek Coffee Fundraiser. The coffee label design contest ends this Monday, Oct. 18, so a winner can be chosen and used on our coffee bags. The fundraiser will begin in November and end before Thanksgiving so coffee can be delivered in time for the holidays. Stay tuned for more information!
A reminder that if you child is out of school but feels well enough to complete school work from home, teachers are placing assignments on our Canvas technology platform for this purpose. Canvas may be new to some of our fifth grade parents as it was not used at the elementary level. For any parent who wants to learn more about how to use Canvas or how to access your child's account, please see the information in this S'more.
Lastly, I wanted to inform all families that our Unity Day to promote kindness, inclusion and anti-bullying is this coming week, Oct. 20. As a school we will be engaging in activities to support these positive messages.
All my best,
Jill Marr

Masks are required on school buses
Please Bring A Mask From Home For The Bus
Thank you to our students and families for supporting the mask requirement on OASD school buses. That mask requirement is still in place based on the federal transportation mask mandate, but the district has depleted its supply of disposable face masks. As a result, disposable masks will no longer be available to students before they get on the bus at the end of the day. Please begin sending your child onto the bus in the morning with their own face mask and remind them to use that face mask again before they board the bus at the end of the day. As a reminder, face masks must be on before boarding the bus and must be worn for the entire bus ride.
Reading Interventionist Position(s) @SLI
One of the positions is a reading intervention teacher which must be certified with a regular education license. An additional 316/317 is preferred. The second position does not need licensure. These position are part time at $23.00. (Each year of local service provides a .25 increase) The schedule will be for 153 days, 5.5 hours per day starting as soon as possible.

Thanks to the Waukesha County Substance Abuse Block Grant, we are able to provide the following:
· Fall Webinar Series – Today we kicked off our Fall webinar series – Substances: An In-depth Look. We will be covering five different substances over the next five weeks. The webinars are on Thursdays from 11:30-1:00pm but will also be recorded and posted at www.yourchoiceprevention.org/webinars. Flyer is attached for more information. The recording of the vaping presentation we had today is also available at the link provided.
· Webinar Subscription – this grant allows access to our ever so popular substance abuse and mental health webinars at NO COST for all your parents and teachers in the school district. Parents/teachers will receive exclusive access to over 30 webinars on the topics of anxiety, depression, suicide, substance abuse, vaping and much more that they can watch on their own time and in the comfort of their own home.
Here is how it works – you share with parents/teachers that this service is now available to them for the 2021-2022 school year. Then parents register by
1. Going to https://www.yourchoiceprevention.org/webinars-members-school,
2. Clicking “join”
3. Create an account and enter code OCONWEB21-22 to remove the fee. Then they can access these webinars whenever they wish. A flyer that you can share with parents is attached.
With busy schedules, and COVID-19 cases on the rise, it’s hard to hold in-person events. These webinars are a great way for parents to have information available whenever it’s most convenient for them.
