Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Meraki Dance Festival
What can we say, other than WOW for the amazing effort and commitment our student dancers have put into preparing for and then competing in the Meraki Dance Festival at the Convention Centre last Wednesday evening. It was a fantastic performance, with each and every student who performed, very deserving of our congratulations! Winning the Most Entertaining and Best Choreographed trophies was a bonus.
To Mrs Candice D’Adamo and her team of helpers, we thank you for your vision and determination in ensuring all dancers were prepared and confident. A fabulous effort by everyone involved, including parents for supporting students and coming along to the performance.
Year 1 – 3 Parish Mass
Thank you to all students and families who attended the 9.30am Parish Mass last Sunday. It was such a pleasure to watch our students and their families involved in the Mass. What great little readers and contributors we have in our midst. Such a confident and happy bunch!
Chess Competition
I was delighted to hear that students involved in the Chess Competition at Mt Lawley PS had a great time on Monday. They did an impressive job in representing our school and no doubt learnt some new moves and had lots of fun meeting other children from different schools.
Mayor Albert Jacob
Currently our Year Five students are studying Civics and Citizenship and it is a real pleasure that the Mayor, Mr Albert Jacob has accepted an invitation to speak with these students on Friday afternoon. He will also talk with the Year 6 students on what it means to be a leader. After this, he will join us at our school assembly to present some student awards. If you would like to meet the Mayor, come along to the 5B Assembly at 2.00pm to say hello.
Public Consultation of Development (planning) Application for Seven Grouped Dwellings at Lot 1 (248) Camberwarra Drive, Craigie.
We have been notified that the City of Joondalup is currently assessing a planning application for seven grouped dwellings at the above address. The front of the proposed development is facing onto Barradine Way. With onsite visitor parking and driveway crossovers leading onto Barradine Way, our initial estimate is that the school will be losing eight car bays in the embayment on Barradine Way. If you would like further information, please go to www.joondalup.wa.gov.au If you wish to send a submission, they can be sent to the City via info@joondalup.wa.gov.au
Thank You and Good Luck
It is with some sadness that we say farewell to our Monday Canteen Manager, Mrs Nicole Waldmeier who is moving to a new administrative position after over 6 years of feeding our staff and children in the canteen. We wish Nicole well in her new endeavours and welcome Mrs Daniela DeLima to our staff as she takes over this position on Mondays from Term 3. Daniela is currently a regular volunteer and with her catering experience should fit in well working with Mrs Kerry Craker, our Thursday Canteen manager.
Many blessings
Tamara McGougan
Principal
We Need Your Help
The school received notification from the City of Joondalup about a new development (planning) application for 7 two storey grouped dwellings at 248 Camberwarra Drive, Craigie. These are to be built in front of the day care centre that is currently under construction on Barradine Way.
If this development goes ahead in its current state, the school will lose 8 parking bays that exist from the basketball courts down. This will impede the ability of our school families to use that street as a drop off and pick up zone. We also believe that our students’ safety will be impacted as they will need to cross several driveways to get to the bottom of the street, onto Camberwarra Drive.
If you do not support the application, please let the Council know by Friday 28 June. How can you do this?
Please email the City of Joondalup via info@joondalup.wa.gov.au with our main concerns as per below:
· Student and parent safety;
· Loss of parking in the drive through;
· Higher density parking; and
· The negative impact to our neighbours.
Should you have any queries please contact the P&F on pandf@wcps.wa.edu.au or Pina on 0408 350 332.

Chess Tournament
On Monday 24 June some WCPS students took part in an Interschool chess tournament at Mt Lawley Primary School. The students displayed good sportsmanship and played with great nous. Seven schools participated and the WCPS team finished a respectable fifth. Well done to Jarrod, Evan, Chris, Grace, Ben (Year 6), Cayden, Kirby, Shay (Year 5) Luca, Jake (Year 4), Hayden (Year 3) and Eve (Year 2) for all their efforts and thank you to Mrs. Pina Pettinicchio for organising.
Mater Dei College Band
The Mater Dei College Band will be visiting our school on Tuesday 2 July at 1:45pm in the school gym, to perform for our students . Parents are invited to attend what should be an entertaining performance. This is a great opportunity for prospective parents who are thinking of enrolling their child in Mater Dei College to see what their music program has to offer.

Meraki Festival
We represented WCPS amazingly and from the sound of the audience we had the most energetic support! The students all had a ball!! The awards we won were:
- Boys Dance “Most Entertaining” Award. Up against all other performances, our boys were the most entertaining in the judges eye. This was truly deserved with many tears backstage.
- Girls Dance “Best Choreography” Award. The girls won this based on their dedication, commitment and execution of the routine. I was very proud of the girls as they were professionals and entertained the audience with so much conviction.
We have a wonderful team of staff who have helped with rehearsals and backstage. I really couldn’t do this without them!! If you see them around please thank them!
Thank you to the parent reps for helping behind the scenes and with the hair and costumes beforehand! As well as the parents that helped with supervision on the day.
Thank you to the costume army that helped make the girls costumes possible!! Three Busy Bee’s and many hours later, they looked beautiful and vibrant onstage.
A HUGE thank you to the parents!! It’s your support that allows our groups to shine the way they did on Wednesday. We are a very busy school and sometimes there is a lot to keep track of. I appreciate all of you getting the students ready, in costumes, taking them to rehearsals and the PCEC as well as getting them up for school the next day!
WCPS was definitely a crowd favourite and rightly so!!
