ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

St. Joseph School, affiliated with the Dominican Sisters and an integral part of St. Joseph Parish in historic Mission San Jose, is dedicated to providing a strong Catholic religious formation and an excellent academic education for transitional kindergarten through eighth grade students. Partners in this endeavor, students, parents, educators, and parish community strive to live Christ’s message, empowering service-minded future leaders for Church and community.

From the Desk of Mrs. Calton

Welcome Back! On behalf of the entire St. Joseph School staff, I am happy to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.

Looking forward to meeting all parents and guardians at our upcoming Back to School Nights.

Peace and Blessings,

Mrs. Patti Calton

24th ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT IS OCTOBER 7TH - GOLFERS AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Please watch you email inbox for a more information on how you can be a part of this very fun day whether you golf or not!

ALL FAMILIES ARE ENCOURAGED TO PURCHASE SCRIP

What is Scrip? Free money for our school! We purchase a variety of gift cards at a discounted price which we then sell for their full face value. Every Scrip sale made generates various degrees of income for our school. For example, you want to give someone a $25 gift card to Starbucks so you send a $25 check, attached to a Scrip order form, (found below), to the school indicating that you would like a $25 Starbucks card. We then send you back a $25 Starbucks card which is then able to be spent at Starbucks for......wait for it....... $25! All it cost you was a little bit of time to place the order. The school just made a 7% profit on your purchase, thanks!

We encourage all of our families to commit to purchasing $200 worth of Scrip per month, (what most families spend on groceries each month, at least!). Check out the order form below, and sent home in your Wednesday envelope each week, to see the variety that we offer. If we do not have it on hand, we can usually get it within 1 week. Try making a Scrip purchase today!

BiG THINGS ARE HAPPENING WITH SCRIP!

Between now and September 14, 2019, every scrip order of $50, or more, gives St. Joseph School a chance to win free shipping for one year. This is the best time to try out scrip. It is still a win/win for everyone and with the added bonus of a chance for free shipping, even better. Start out the school year with a Scrip purchase. You just may get hooked. (Stay tuned for more information on how you can pay for Scrip with your credit card).

Health and Safety

MEDICATION ON CAMPUS

MEDICATION: ALL PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION MUST HAVE A DOCTOR’S AUTHORIZTION – NO EXCEPTIONS. This is true for both long term and temporary medications, (i.e. antibiotics, etc…). Please refer to the Parent/Student handbook concerning the proper authorization needed for all medications to be administered during school hours. An example of the form required for any and all medication that needs to be administered during school hours may be found below and at the back of the handbook. You may also print copies of this page from the website

.

IF YOUR CHILD HAS BEEN PRESCRIBED AN EPI PEN - ALLERGY ALERT: If your child has a severe allergy to anything that they may be exposed to at school, it is very important that we have an medically provided Allergy Action Plan as well as an Epi-pen in the office for them. Any child with moderate to severe allergies should always have medication in the office for use in urgent or emergency situations. See paragraph above for what is required to have medication for your child on campus. Please call the office with any questions.

COUGH DROPS: Cough drops are considered medication and must be brought to the office, by an adult, and accompanied by a completed Cough Drop Authorization Form. A copy of this form is also located below.

CROSSWALK REMINDER

Please remember to always use the crosswalk when coming onto or exiting the school grounds. It is very dangerous to walk between parked or moving cars.

NO PARKING ALONG ST. JOSEPH TERRACE

This is the road that runs behind the 1-4 grade classrooms. Please, there is no parking along the fence by the picnic tables on this road no matter the time of day. Also, please do not park in any space that is marked as “No Parking”. Thank you.

PLEASE HELP US TO BE GOOD NEIGHBORS

The Dominican Sisters request that parents not use their property as an exit. They also request that SJS parents not use their parking lot without prior permission. This includes picking up or dropping off your student/s. We only have permission for Transitional-Kindergarten parents and staff to park there on a regular basis and they have been issued special parking permits. Thank you.

HOT LUNCH NEWS

Please visit Choicelunch.com to order your student hot lunches. Shannon Ramirez is our hot lunch coordinator and parent helpers are needed. Please email Shannon at sfaithramirez@gmail.com if you are interested in receiving more information or to volunteer. Please see the school Handbook for more info. PLEASE NOTE: Payments are not accepted at the lunch counter. Emergency lunches are NOT available.

REGARDING MONEY, (CASH OR CHECKS), SUBMITTED VIA YOUR FAMILY ENVELOPE

Please be sure to attach your check or cash, with a staple if possible, to the form that it belongs with. If you have no form, please put your payment in an envelope and clearly mark on the outside indicating whom it is from and what it is for. We also ask that you not combine payments that are for different things (i.e.: Kid’s Club and a field trip, class supplies, etc.…). This would really help our office out a great deal. Thank you.

CORRECTED CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS

The corrected version of the Calendar Highlights for the 2019-2020 school year was sent home in the Wednesday envelope today.

PARENT HOURS REMINDER

It is now time to turn in your completed parent hour log for the summer/month of August. These completed forms must be turned in to the office no later than September 16th. PARENT HELPERS ARE NEEDED - EARN PARENT HOURS

Please see the flyer, attached below, for ways you can get a jump on your parent hours and help out our school.

PARENT HOURS

Single parents, who assume the obligation of Parent Participation alone, need to submit a letter or e-mail to Mrs. Calton requesting this consideration. Otherwise we will assume both parents are involved with the child/ren and full hours will be required.

ALL DURING SCHOOL HOURS VOLUNTEERS

Please remember to sign into the volunteer log in the office. This log is not for keeping track of hours; it is to put you on our insurance while you volunteer. It is also to let us know who is here in the event of an emergency. Please be sure to put in the time that you arrive and the time that you leave. You will be issued a name tag and we ask that you wear it so that it may be easily seen. Be sure to return the visitor’s badge to the office when leaving campus. Thank you.
