West Ada School District Update
October 9, 2020
CDH Potentially Shifting Schools to Category 3-Red
Central District Health (CDH) notified the community earlier today they are likely shifting into Category 3- Red for Ada County schools next week. Their regularly scheduled category update is Tuesday, October 13. West Ada School District will use guidance provided by CDH in decision making.
CDH also outlined recommendations giving schools more flexibility in maintaining hybrid learning plans in red operations. CDH indicated all plans should include means for reducing risks for students, staff and teachers, and should include additional restrictions and actions if COVID-19 cases occur. West Ada School District will continue working through the details of what changes and mitigation measures need to take place for us to be successful in red operations.
West Ada School District's leadership and Board of Trustees will use the first few days of next week determining what needs to be adjusted or implemented shall we go into red operations:
- Monday - Executive Team discusses pandemic plan and potentially moving to red operations.
- Tuesday - COVID-19 taskforce reviews the new guidance and discusses implementation. The Board of Trustees will consider possible amendments to the pandemic plan, also known as the Fall Reopening Plan, during their regular meeting. Based on the Board’s recommendations any changes would begin October 19.
- Wednesday - Parents and staff will receive information on any changes to the pandemic plan and instructions for moving forward with learning.
The first few days of next week will look like this for students:
- Monday – Students continue following alternate day schedule. Grades preschool through fourth grade in-person daily.
- Tuesday – Students continue following alternate day schedule. Grades preschool through fourth grade in-person daily.
- Wednesday – Students continue following alternate day schedule. Grades preschool through fourth grade in-person daily. Students in grades 9 and 11 do not have school since grades 10 and 12 are partaking in testing.
We appreciate your flexibility and partnership in the education of students.
School operations during the COVID-19 pandemic are continually reviewed and adjusted based upon medical authority recommendation, community feedback, and in the best service of our student, staff and parent communities.
Current plans for operating in red are as follows:
Targeted, short-term or extended school closure with remote learning
- Remote learning implemented.
- Because of 1:1 device deployment, teachers can deliver teaching and learning opportunities which are engaging and move learning forward in a remote setting. It will also allow for assessments and grading to continue.
- This option allows for schools to bring in small groups of specific students based on their individual needs (IEP, 504, EL, etc.) or specific needs for their program (CTE, AP, etc.).
The Board of Trustees will review the recent survey data during their regular meeting Tuesday evening. All survey results will be available at www.westada.org/communication following their meeting. Any adjustments to operations following the meeting will be shared on the District’s homepage as well as through email.

CDH Providing Access to Flu Vaccine
Dear Parents/Guardian:
Central District Health (CDH) is helping to protect students against the seasonal flu. This year the flu vaccine is more important than ever with COVID-19 circulating. With an aim to keep children as healthy as possible and sick days to a minimum, CDH will be offering a pop-up flu clinic at a school near you this fall. The best way to protect your child against the flu is through vaccination. CDH will be offering the injectable flu vaccine.
What is my cost? There is no cost for the flu vaccine; however, there is an administration fee. CDH will bill your insurance/Medicaid for the administration fee. If you do not have insurance or your insurance does not fully cover the cost, CDH will cover the remaining cost. There will be no out-of-pocket cost. A copy of CDH's financial and privacy practices can be found on our website at: https://www.cdhd.idaho.gov/hl-immunizations-beforeyourappointment.php or can be obtained at the pop up clinic.
