Imagine 2023
The D.C. Everest Education Foundation is happy to announce it will host its IMAGINE community event on March 8, 2023, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Greenheck Field House and the DCE Senior High (the main entrance will be located at the Greenheck Field House). The Foundation funds innovative programs and projects throughout our District thanks to the generosity of community sponsors and the IMAGINE event. Several of our Riverside Clubs will have booths at the event. Riverside's School Of Rock Club is performing at the event at 5:35 in the Senior High Auditorium! Riverside's Ukulele Club will be performing at 5:55 in the Senior High Auditorium. We hope to see you there!
IMAGINE is open to the public and will showcase the talents and interests of our K-12 DCE students. The event will feature live dramatic and musical student performances, an expansive student art gallery, nearly 50 student clubs hosting interactive family-friendly activities, and a variety of athletic events for all ages. Families also can enjoy refreshments, enter a raffle and purchase DCE spirit wear.
We encourage DCE families and members of the community to join us. IMAGINE is a great way to learn more about the various student clubs available throughout the District, while enjoying the artistic, imaginative, musical, dramatic and athletic talents of our students.

National School Breakfast Week
March 6- March 10, 2023 is National School Breakfast Week and the theme is Dig Into School Breakfast. The kitchen staff would like to have some fun activities for the students that come through to eat breakfast. They will have coloring sheets that students can color and turn in for a prize, students can get a prize for randomly drawing the lucky tray, and more. We would like to have a fun dress up day on Tuesday March 7th. We encourage kids to dress up like construction professionals (Hard hats, reflective vests, safety goggles, and work boots are recognized accessories).
Happy St. PAWtrick's Day!
Riverside Humane Society Supply Drive
Join Riverside in a community service project for the Marathon County Humane Society! Help our local animal shelter by filling their shelves before spring break! Math Olympics
On Tuesday February 28, 2023, Riverside students participated in our Annual Math Olympics. Throughout the week, each grade had morning math questions and have been discussing how to persevere, when math gets hard. Students participated in grade level Kahoot's in the morning and we got to celebrate this year's winners with an assembly in the afternoon. Take a look at our proud Math Olympic Winners! Congratulations to all of our participants!

PTO
A Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey was conducted recently throughout the district. Thank you to the 148 families who participated in our survey! At this month's PTO meeting, we would like to discuss some of the results of that survey. We are interested in your feedback to develop and respond to the things that we need to change, and also develop ways to build on the great things that we are already doing. Please come to our next meeting, we want to hear from you!
There are a lot of exciting events coming up soon! If you would consider helping with the Ice Cream Social or have new ideas, we would love to hear them!
This is always a busy time of year for field trips, Field Day, Science Fair, Variety Show, etc. and this is a great time to discuss those events, or to ask questions!

Open Enrollment Reminder
Application period for the 2023 - 2024 school year is February 6 – April 28, 2023. Wisconsin's inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend a school district other than the one in which they live. The DPI web site to complete an on-line application is https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment. This web site will open on February 6, 2023 at 12:00 a.m. and close on April 28, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.
Parents must complete an online application no earlier than February 6, 2023, and no later than April 28, 2023 by 4:00 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted for any reason.
At this time, once a student is accepted to attend D.C. Everest under open enrollment, the student may continue to attend the district without having to reapply every year.
For more information contact Tracey Blaser at 715-359-4221, extension 1237.

How to Help Kids with Self-Control and Executive Functioning Skills
Executive function refers to skills that help us focus, plan, prioritize, work toward goals, self-regulate behaviors and emotions, adapt to new and unexpected situations, and ultimately engage in abstract thinking and planning. Just as a conductor would do for an orchestra, executive functions supervise and coordinate a multitude of cognitive, behavioral, and emotional tasks.
Executive functions in childhood are, by default, challenging. That’s because, although our executive function skills begin to develop in the first year of life, they are not fully developed until early adulthood.
Check out this great resource link from Whole Child Counseling on “How to Help Kids with Self-Control and Executive Functioning Skills.”
The Take-Home Message
There is certainly not a one-size-fits-all intervention to improve executive functions in children. Typically developing children, and children with neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, or learning disabilities, may respond very differently to each intervention. Not all of them may be feasible or even appropriate for some children and families.
The best approach is one that considers each child’s strengths and vulnerabilities, as well as each individual family’s needs and functioning. For example, offering an overly intense computerized training to an already anxious and stressed child may not be the most appropriate option, as it would reduce the time they could have to unwind, exercise, and potentially practice emotional resilience.
Finally, regardless of the intervention, parent-child relationships are key. It is the parents’ and the family’s constant support, shared experiences, and time spent together enjoying everyday activities like reading books, cooking, or dancing that help scaffold children’s self-regulatory skills. These are, undoubtedly, the most effective and lasting executive function foundations.
