Prestwick Profile - Community Vol. 39 May 20th
Bon Voyage 2018-2019
This truly has been a fab 5 year for us. We call it the Fab 5 as our 5th year anniversary. In this year we continue to accomplish amazing things for learners and our community. I would say the word of the year has been GROWTH.
With the physical growth we are continuing to grow at a rapid rate. We have families moving to the area in search of a tight knit community and great STEM learning. We extended our outdoor learning cottages from two to three and did so seamlessly. Our future holds growth as well. In this year we have learned of future changes with the passing of the bond and opening of two new middle school campuses- Stike and Walker in the year 2020. Believe it or not we are already planning for this!
Former students are GROWING into their destiny. This year our 1st group of 8th graders graduates from LEHS and we will be there to support them as they step into the next phase of their lives. It is an awesome opportunity to have been a part of their lives and watch as they set the world on fire with their greatness. I get emotional as I type these words. #PSA4Life
We also are heavily focused on GROWTH for our learners. Our staff are getting to know each child, setting goals with them and seeking to add value to our learners. Many are reaching these goals on MAP and classroom assessments and even blowing right past their goals!! We see the fruits of this labor in other areas as well. In our first round of STAAR testing 100% of learners in 8th grade math and 5th grade reading met standard! This is fantastic! 97% met standard in 5th grade Math, 92 % in 8th grade Reading and we expect to be at 100% after our second round of testing. While we strongly believe that STAAR is just one measure we are feel we are meeting our goals by making the most of each days learning. More important than passing we can't wait to see the growth index for every learner.
We THANK YOU for your partnership in making learning meaningful and positive. We hope to GROW even more community partnerships going forward. Every time we ask for community support we get overwhelming support. I say it all the time and I mean it - we could not do it without you!
As we move into summer please take time to unwind, relax and recharge. Keep your kiddos reading, exploring and keeping a journal of their adventures. These are simple ways to keep their skills sharp in fun and simple ways. Also help us spread the good news. Tag us on twitter @PrestwickSTEM or use our hashtags #prestwickfamiLE #prestwickproud as you share photos.
There is so much to be proud of and I count every year I get with your children as a blessing! Take care and know how much we love your children and your famiLE!

8th Grade End of the Year Activities
Parents and Important People,
This is Mrs. Gibson, Your Proud Prestwick Principal. We wanted to share some exciting end of the year events that will impact your 8th grader. Please mark these on your calendar and let us know if you have any questions. It has been a true pleasure to serve your students and your family. It is hard to let them go on to Little Elm High School but we do so with anticipation of the great things they will accomplish. Don’t forget we look forward to graduation invitations coming our way! #PrestwickProud
The first event will be Award Ceremonies on May 21st at the following times. We will stagger by grade level this year to allow for seating and speed of ceremony. We hope you appreciate this adaptation.
6th grade and Electives @ 5:30pm - 6:15pm
7th grade and Electives @ 6:30pm - 7:15pm
8th grade and Electives @ 7:30pm - 8:15pm
Students and families receiving awards for academic excellence and high character will be notified that they will get awards by staff. Please join us!
Our final farewell to our 8th graders will take place on May 22nd at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm. This will include a procession through the campus and closing ceremony in our cafe. Please bring signs, posters and any other fun events as we celebrate them and bid them much success. Feel free to dress wacky and embarrass them if you so wish. Students are free to leave with families after this event. We can’t wait to see you!
Lastly, please note final exam schedule attached and published in this upcoming weeks smore and on our webpage. It is very important students are present for final exams as their final grades are calculated based upon these tests. Let’s finish strong!
