Principal's Corner - Mr. Pearson

Well, you blink an eye and it's here. This is the last Thursday of school! Crazy to think that this time next week will be summer break. Congratulations on another year. Though there have been some unfortunate circumstances, it has been another amazing year. Thank you!

As seems to be the pattern I have to take the opportunity to congratulate and thank our teachers. I have been receiving results from our testing and our MAPS testing showed, on average, our classes were at or above the expected numbers on both growth and achievement across all tests. This is a tremendous accomplishment and a testament to the wonderful educators we have. Great job! They are unquestionably the best.

Moving forward I have to say thank you on an individual basis to you as parents, the students, and teachers alike. Though the circumstances of coming into this role were tragic, during this time I have been met with amazing support and encouragement from you as a community. I had huge shoes to fill, and have been overwhelmingly blessed by how you responded. It truly has been a blast and I am very grateful. I think I can speak for Cathy as well in expressing a profound THANK YOU!! Cathy plans to return in the fall, and therefore you will get to see her lovely face in the corner of this newsletter again next round. Your kids are amazing to work with and I know we are both fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them.

I hope you all have a wonderful last week of school. We have a lot of exciting events this last week and we hope to see you at some of these activities. I hope you all have a safe and wonderful summer. We'll all enjoy some well-deserved reprieve and meet back here next year to do it all over again.

Parent Warning - Blue Whale Challenge

A potentially deadly new game called the "Blue Whale Challenge" has been reported in our area. This game ultimately challenges teenagers and youth, primarily through SnapChat and/or Facebook, to harm themselves for 50 days, many times resulting in suicide. Please be aware of this in our community. If you hear conversation or reference to this challenge please contact the school immediately so we can partner with our counselor and administration to address the issue as soon as possible. While we have not had any instances of this being present in Mancos, we have heard some reports in surrounding communities. We want to take a proactive approach to eliminating this terrible social trend. This is obviously not a threat we take lightly and we appreciate you partnering with us to protect our wonderful youth population.

Summer School Registration

Mancos Elementary School offers a summer program for students entering kindergarten, first, second, or third grades for the 2017-2018 school year. If you have received a letter inviting your child to summer school, please mark whether or not your child will be attending and return it to the office ASAP!

Library Books!

Please have your students check their bookshelves for any books that belong to the library and return them to the school ASAP. Ms. Chyrise is giving out Caught Being Goods for each library book returned!
