DIRECTOR'S CORNER

FROM MR. LINKOUS

It was fantastic week of 5 day, Face2Face classes this week! The concert bands are hard at work on a variety of pieces and have been making great progress with putting together a program for the end of the year. More to come regarding opportunities to see performances.

WINTER PROGRAMS

Our Indoor Percussion is hard at work with continuing the recording of their Spring 21 production and our Color Guard will be putting together a recruitment performance for our upcoming 9th graders this week.

FUNDRAISING

This past year has been a challenge in so many ways for all of us and fundraising for our band program is no exception. Please consider supporting the education and positive experience of our band students by purchasing a delicious meal from our Lowcountry Boil and Chili Fundraiser! The proceeds directly benefit YOUR CHILD! More details can be found below in this newsletter.

PER DISTRICT POLICY

If your student has forgotten something at home, nothing may be dropped off at the school this year. Please make sure your have your instrument and mouthpiece when you leave your house!

LOWCOUNTRY BOIL & CHILI NIGHT FUNDRAISER

DON'T HAVE FOMO!!! NO FEAR OF MISSING OUT! IT'S NOT TOO LATE!!!

We have extended the deadline until WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24, for ordering!!!

Share our FACEBOOK EVENT on your personal page and in your HOA groups!

THIS IS THE FINAL WEEK TO ORDER ONLINE!! ORDERS ARE DUE MARCH 24!!

Please see the note above from Mr. Linkous. Our band is in a precarious situation right now having lost most of our larger fundraisers this year. We need you to share this with your friends and neighbors! We want our FIRST ANNUAL to make a big impact so that this can become something that people look forward to each year.

Our event is scheduled for Saturday, March 27 with pickup times from 4-7pm. Please look for an email tomorrow with a SignUpGenius link for helpers on Saturday. There will be options for both parents and students. Another SignUpGenius will be sent for the window to pick up your dinners as well.

We are excited that we can use this as a way to bring some much needed funds into our program, and we look forward to this new opportunity! It will also be a great time for Band families to work together and get to know one another better as this has been such an odd year with very few opportunities to volunteer and build a family atmosphere among our parents. Please share the link above for our EVENT page, the flyer and the website with your friends and families!

Tickets are for sale on our band website at:

Rising Freshmen

This is the time of year that 8th grade parents may be wondering what Band is about. If you see parents questioning, or if they ask you, adding your positive feedback can go very far in helping both parents and students make this decision, especially since these students have not had the opportunity to see a marching program like all of the current students did during their 8th grade year. Remind them that by taking band for at least one year will satisfy their PE and Fine Arts credits, and by then you will be hooked! Band is a family, and we are excited to have a whole new group of family members coming along soon!

BAND STORE

Marching season is over, but it's still fun to show Band spirit!
We have several styles of spring weight (wind-breaker style) jackets in stock as well as polo shirts available. These would be perfect for volunteering for some of our upcoming events!

We have EXTRA "Silipint" cups, a few lids and a few straws available for purchase as well as puravida bracelets!

We also have some extra SHOW SHIRT items (t-shirts, long sleeve, crew neck sweatshirts & hoodies). If you plan to work at the Lowcountry Boil event and need a new shirt first, email us at nafobandstore@gmail.com beforehand. We will have the store open at the next Booster Club meeting.

WAYS TO GET INFORMATION AND STAY IN TOUCH

VOLUNTEERS

If you are planning on chaperoning or volunteering to work with the students, you must have a Secure Volunteer card. This is a card issued through the Fort Mill School District that performs as a background check to clear you to work directly with the students. It takes 5 minutes to fill out online and submit. The district will then be in touch with you regarding passing the verification process. In turn, they will send us a list of cleared parents to help with the students. If you have one from the middle school, it is still valid -- be sure to check the expiration date on the card so it doesn't expire. The application is on the band website under Participate! Be a Secure Volunteer!

Once you have filled out the form, please email Mr. Linkous to let him know to look for it.

** THIS IS NOT REQUIRED TO WORK AT THE PANTHERS STADIUM **

AMAZON SMILES

Please use smile.amazon.com when you shop on Amazon. This site uses your same user name and password as the Amazon site, however it gives a percentage of all purchases back to the band. You will need to choose Fort Mill District Band Booster Club Inc in order to support the band. We are doing very well with this since many are shopping online!

HARRIS TEETER e-VIC

Nation Ford High School Band has teamed up with Harris Teeter E-Vic program as an easy way to help raise funds for our band program. Please go to the Harris Teeter website and under “Together in Education” click the green tab to "link your school". Link your card to Nation Ford HS Marching Band and you are set. Note: If you did this last year, you need to do this again this year. E-Vic linking is only good for 1 year at a time. Please, everyone link your E-Vic card as this is an easy and effortless way to help raise funds for the band.

Our official name for linking purposes is “Nation Ford HS Marching Band"
School Code is 3956

CROSSWINDS INSURANCE REFERRAL

Renado Robinson at Crosswinds Insurance has a great referral program to benefit the band program. For each referral sent to Crosswinds Insurance that sets up a new insurance policy, Crosswinds Insurance will donate $10 to the band on a monthly basis and will also send a $10 gift card to the referring person. This insurance company can beat the price of most other companies as they are an independent insurance representative. Please take advantage of this if you are looking for insurance!

ALL PAYMENTS SHOULD BE PAID AT THIS TIME.

BAND FEE: $425 (reduced to $400 if paid in full by Oct. 16)

Please visit our website for more information on Band Fees. https://www.nationfordband.com/fees-payments

** We appreciate everyone who has communicated with us regarding challenges with band fee payments. Please reach out to Mr. Linkous at any time with questions. We will always work very hard to help families in need. Band fees are very crucial this season, considering this year’s limited fundraising opportunities, while still trying to provide a great experience for our students with quality instructors in front of them. **

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dorothy Shiakallis at nafobandpres22@gmail.com, Nicky Ludolph our Charms Secretary at nafocharms@gmail.com, or our Executive Secretary, Bob Hessler, at nafoband@gmail.com.

It is important that everyone pay the $100 Activity Fee which is assessed by the FMSD. This fee insures that the district will continue to supplement our staff expenses AND provide transportation once field trips resume (Region Band, All-state Band, Concert Performance Assessment, Winter Guard, Percussion Ensemble, etc).
