Walk & Talks & #ObserveMe
Dear Cougar Family,
Remember the lobster from staff development? This metaphor for teacher growth is a powerful one--like the lobster, our growth as educators takes time and sometimes makes us feel uncomfortable, but we emerge stronger and better from taking these risks. In the first two weeks, I have had multiple teachers on campus tell me, "Hey, I am being a lobster" followed by what they are doing differently this year, and I am loving the instructional dialogue buzzing throughout the building! Whether trying out Twitter, recording class for students in ISS or Venture, or incorporating more student-centered activities, teachers on our campus are stretching themselves and modeling growth and learning for our students. This has been reiterated in our goals meetings as the administrative team has seen a greater level of reflection and passion in the goals written this year.
Our next step in helping one another learn and grow in our profession is our Walk & Talks. When it is your two-week window for a Walk & Talk, the administrator listed for you will set up a time to observe another teacher's class with you, and then you will talk about what you saw afterward. Our objectives for these Walk & Talks is to stimulate the instructional dialogue on our campus and allow time for teachers to learn from one another.
If you are willing to have an administrator and teacher visit your room during a Walk & Talk, we'd like for you to customize this sign and post it on your door. In addition, the Twitter hashtag #ObserveMe is an initiative in which educators invite others in to observe their classes and provide them feedback regarding a specific professional goal. If you would like the administrators and teachers who visit your room to provide specific feedback, please include these "Look fors" on your sign. See the images below or search Twitter for #ObserveMe to see things teachers from around the nation are doing to grow through peer coaching. Listing these "look fors" on your door sign is optional, but this feedback would be a key tool in ensuring you are progressing toward meeting your personal goal(s).
May your week be an excellent one! And as always, COUGAR PRIDE!

Cougar Pride Yearbook
Staff can buy a copy of the 2016-2017 Cougar Pride yearbook now for the lowest price of the year at www.smart-pay.com. The current price ($75) will increase to $80 on Sept. 17, and then to $85 on Oct. 15. After online sales end in the spring, we must charge the full price plus tax (around $97).
We appreciate the support of our staff and all of the positive feedback we received on last year's book. We're already hard at work on this year's book, whose theme, Vivid, incorporates both our school's 5th anniversary (roman numeral V) and the awesomely vibrant and passionate student body we're lucky to serve.
