The Buzz at Westbrook School

September 24, 2021

From the Principal...

Dear Westbrook Families,

Fall is in the air this week! Our students have been bundled up in coats arriving at school. We are all trying to get used to the colder weather. Many of our classrooms are learning about fall, family, and feasts this week. The season is making me excited for our fall fundraiser, Walk for Westbrook, on Wednesday, October 6th. This year students will be walking around Westbrook to visit seven interactive, space-themed stations from across the galaxy. Parents are encouraged to come and cheer for their Westbrook students. We are grateful to our PTO for the many hours that have gone into making this an exciting event for our students.

Walk for Westbrook - Wednesday, October 6th

10:50 AM 1st Grade (Grossmayer, Brewer, Zei, Bruns, Roy)

11:05 AM Kindergarten and Circle of Friends

1:45 PM 1st Grade (Brooks, Handler, Fergus, Domalick, Brunzell)

2:00 PM Kindergarten and Circle of Friends

We are excited to share that we have finished our benchmark testing for our kindergarteners and first graders. We are grateful to all of the teachers and instructional assistants who helped with assessments, and we are so proud of all of our students for their focus and participation. Over the next two weeks, grade-level teams will meet to review grade-level and group-level data to ensure that our core instruction meets the needs of the majority of our students. We will identify students needing additional support through interventions, and we will set academic grade-level goals in reading and math. The results of these assessments are for internal problem-solving. However, you will be notified if your child qualifies for a math or reading intervention by October 8th.

For your children,

Danielle Crandall

Westbrook Principal

Picture Day Reminder

We are excited to share that picture day will be on Tuesday, September 28th. Students who started the school year remotely, and are not quarantining, are invited to come to have their picture taken on Tuesday, September 28th, from 4:00-4:30 pm. Students who come to school in person will take their photos during the school day. Students who are quarantining or absent on September 28th will participate during our retakes on Wednesday, November 10th.

Safety Reminders

  • When you pull into the parking lot from Busse, please head to the north end of the parking lot to find a parking space. This will hopefully keep traffic moving and help with traffic back up on Busse.

  • Please ensure you use the crosswalk in the parking lot walking to and from Westbrook.

  • Please do not walk between the busses. Staff members will be in front of the school each morning, reminding families to only cross at the crosswalk.

  • We kindly request you do not bring dogs or animals on school property. Many of our students are frightened of dogs.

  • Please contact the classroom teacher if you have a friend or family member picking up your child. Please communicate to the adult which door your child is dismissed from.
