We are delighted to offer our second annual Mock Newbery on Thursday, January 15th from 5 pm to 8 pm. This year we are co-sponsoring the event with the San Diego County Library and it will be held at the 4S Ranch branch (in Rancho Bernardo). Here is our shortlist of 8 titles.

We are also co-sponsoring a mock Caldecott on Saturday, January 3rd from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm in the same building. The shortlisted titles are as follows.

ALL DIFFERENT NOW by E.B. Lewis
DRAW! by Raul Colon
THE FARMER AND THE CLOWN by Marla Frazee
THE GIRL AND THE BICYCLE by Mark Pett
THE IRIDESCENCE OF BIRDS by Patricia Machlachlan, illustrated by Hadley Hooper
NEIGHBORHOOD SHARKS by Katherine Roy

The San Diego County Library has multiple copies of our shortlisted titles for both the mock Caldecott and the mock Newbery. Please e-mail me if you are interested in attending either event, so that we know how many people to plan for.

Technology Tip of the Month

Storybird is a very cool web site that serves as an innovative publishing platform, allowing students to publish their own work, and allowing them to access the work of others. Whether you use it for digital storytelling, building literacy, or boosting curriculum, it's a dynamic tool with an untold number of applications in the classroom and library.
