Phyllis Yager Diversity Teacher of the Year
Phyllis Yager received a Master of Arts in 1953 and a doctorate in 1983 from the UI. She is the late wife of Science Education Professor Emeritus Robert E. Yager, who also received a Master of Arts in 1953 and a doctorate in 1957 from Iowa. Phyllis Yager devoted her career to advocating multicultural opportunities and gender-affirming activities through her work as a teacher in the Iowa City School District and later as a consultant to the Grant Wood Area Education Agency.

SFA News and our Food Pantry
Liberty is thankful for Heba Nabhan, our former SFA, who is moving out of state. Heba got a lot of initiatives started that benefit our kids. We are excited to welcome our new SFA, ShaNell Young, who joins us from similar work in the Cedar Rapids Schools. We are certain ShaNell will build on what has begun and grow us in new directions as well.
Our food pantry is now open for the 2019-2020 school year! The pantry is stocked with many items including, cereals, pasta, cooking oils, snacks, hygiene products, and much more! If you are interested in accessing the food pantry, please contact our Student & Family Advocate, ShaNell Young at 319.688.154 ext.3019 or Young.Shanell@iowacityschools.org.

The Varsity team is also undefeated after beating Xavier and winning the Charles City tournament Saturday.
Construction Phase 3
The project is still scheduled for completion in June 15, 2020 and should be fully functional for the 20-21 school year
1) The satellite bus depot is nearly complete and will be used as the home base for our contractor for the 19-20 school year. It will serve our community as a bus depot in the 20-21 school year.
2) 21-classroom addition now has 2 floors and a hallway and is really making progress.
3) A fully secure "hard-scaped" courtyard is taking shape (pictured right)
4) The additional activity parking lot on the far western portion of campus was used for the first time Friday night
Water Bottle reminder
The health office is seeing lots of kids complaining of sore throats! As the new school year starts we are exposed to more germs! Remind your kids to follow good health practices like washing hands, especially before eating, and not sharing water bottles or other drinks with friends!
Don’t forget to wash those reusable water bottles often. It is recommended to wash them daily.
Job Shadowing Opportunities are Available

There is also a phone app. To get the app click on the rSchool calendar link below and then click on "Get the mobile app" on the menu on the right side. Once you download the app:
1. Click set up
2. Select state- Iowa
3. Scroll down until and find Mississippi Valley Conference, IA
4. Select Iowa City Liberty (There is also a listing for Liberty under the Iowa City Community School District heading but this calendar will be blank so use the Iowa City Liberty listing under the MVC heading)
