Reading Mentor Program
“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child.”
The National Education Association’s Read Across America program is in its 17th year! This program focuses on motivating children to read. Here at BSE, we have a team of volunteers who work with our students to improve and enhance their reading skills. Our goal is to have a volunteer for each teacher, which means we need you! If you have any interest in becoming involved, this is a great program and the kids LOVE interacting with our volunteers!
To participate contact: Carrie Geroulis at geroulisfamily@sbcglobal.net or 913-0586.
Thanks to Back-to-School Bash Volunteers!
The Back-To-School Bash Committee and BSE PTO would like to thank all of the volunteers, BSE parents, and students for their hard work and support of this year's BTSB on September 5th! Despite the heat, it was our biggest bash ever and fun was had by all! The money earned from this year's BTSB will directly support the purchase of technology and much needed items for our kids and teachers to utilize in the classroom.
Thank you to our food vendors, Edward's Dashboard Diner Food Truck, Pat's Philly Pretzels, Hot Box Pizza, Kona Ice, and Ritter's Frozen Custard for their donations also. Thanks also to our BSE teachers, staff, local businesses, HSE, FHS, HSEJH, FJH students, and parents for your assistance with the bash and your donations to our silent auction! What a fun way to kick off a great school year at BSE!

Don’t miss the Family Pumpkin Festival hosted at Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve on September 28!
Fall is coming soon and Fishers Parks & Recreation wants to ensure your family can make the most of the season! Join us at Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve on Sunday, September 28, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. for the Family Pumpkin Festival. Start brainstorming a few creative ideas, pack a few carving tools and come ready to bring a Jack-O-Lantern to life! After carving a pumpkin, families can enjoy activities including Pumpkin Putt Mini Golf, Pumpkin Bowling, Jack-O-Lantern Ring Toss and more. This program is free for residents to attend; however, registration is required by September 26 so that we secure enough pumpkins for everyone.
Once pumpkins are carved, they will stay with Fishers Parks & Recreation and line the trails during the Halloween Hikes. Once the Halloween Hikes have taken place, families have a few options if they would like to keep their pumpkins! If you carve a pumpkin and also attend the Saturday Halloween Hike, you may take your pumpkin home with you at the end of the event. Otherwise, carved pumpkins will be available on a first come, first served basis beginning on Sunday, October 5. Pumpkins not picked up by Wednesday, October 8, will be composted.
