Deposition
Deposition is the the deposit of material from forces such as wind, water and ice. An example of deposition in the South Texas Brush Country landscape is when resacas are created by floods and flowing water that changes the direction of the Rio Grande River. Deposition happens when silt is deposited in this resacas area. Flowing water no longer carries out the silt. The area is filled with silt and can become a marsh land.
Farming in the lower Rio Grande valley can contribute to the deposition of particles many miles away. Wind erosion lifts particles and can transport them many miles from their original source. Deposition happens when the wind is no longer strong enough to hold the particle in the air. The particle is then deposited on the surface. At times, farming creates tracks of land not covered with vegetation. This exposed, bare land allows high winds to carry off some parts of the soil, eventually depositing them many miles away.

Erosion
Rio Grande river is located in the South Texas Brush Country region. Flowing water and floods sometimes change the route of the Rio Grande river. Areas called resacas are formed. A resacas is an area cut off from the Rio Grande river. Once a resacas is formed, flowing water is unable to carry out the silt, sand and rock. Ponds and marshes can be formed in these areas.
