News From Mrs. Wegman's Room
April 10th, 2017
Language Arts
This week we will read Stephen Kellogg’s story The Mysterious Tadpole. Our comprehension skill will focus on story structure. We will find the characters, setting, problem, solution, and main events in this story as well as our books in small groups. The students will also write response poems as well as review contractions and words with oo, ew, ue, and ou.
Science/Social Studies/Health
In science, we continue to check in on our mealworms to watch their life cycle. Many students mealworms have entered the pupa stage. We also have enjoyed watching our brassica plants begin to sprout and grow. This week, our milkweed bugs will also arrive. The milkweed bugs will be in a few different habitats in the room for students to observe, but they do not allow for each student to have their own. Our caterpillars will arrive the last week of April!
In social studies we are learning about how communities change. The students are working in groups to create a plan to make a neighborhood better.
Our health topic this week is about our body. We will learn about the function of our stomach, bones, muscles, heart, lungs, and brain.
Math
In math this week, we will finish Topic 12 on measurement and take our assessment. Then we will begin Topic 13 which is a short topic on addition and subtraction problems involving measurement. Homework will only be sent home on Friday this week.
