TODAY’S MASS SPEAKS of the essence of holiness. And why should we be holy? We should be holy, because God himself is holy and we have been created in his image. But what is holiness? The First Reading today says it consists negatively, in not hating your own kind, and positively, in loving one’s neighbor as oneself. It is taken for granted that we normally act in our own self-interest. However, the Gospel says we are to act equally in our neighbor's interest as well. Because, in the long run, it is also in our own long-term interest not just in our future life but here on earth.
This seeking of Holiness that Jesus describes to us in scripture is timely as we are getting ready to begin the Lenten season this Wednesday. By incorporating the three pillars of Lent, "Fasting, Prayer and Almsgiving" we are working to bring ourselves closer to God by striving to follow in His Son's footsteps. This isthe beginning of perfection that Jesus calls us to embody.
Jesus' “perfection” and our “perfection” have two different meanings. Jesus is talking about living within our True-Self. Our True-Self is at the core of who we are and is rooted in love because it is a gift from God – a perfect gift from God. Each of us has a True-Self, but sometimes we act out of our false-self – the one that is based on how we think our lives should be. When we act out of our false-self we are easily offended and see others as different from us. This is what leads to the dualism that Jesus calls us to avoid in today’s gospel. But, if we act out of our True-Self, out of Love, then we see all people as having the same True-Self core, which is to say God. There is no other way to see another person then as the same, regardless of gender, race, age, color, religious belief, or political affiliation. The false-self is imperfect, but the True-Self is perfect.
As we begin our Lenten journeys together as a community, may we begin to look inwards to our True-Self through the eyes of our creator, the one who loves us unconditionally.
May you and your family have an exhilarating beginning to the Lenten season. a season filled with conscious choice to rebuild and repair our relationship with God.
God bless each of you and your family this week.

NAME THE NEW FORT SASKATCHEWAN FIRE TRUCKS
The City of Fort Saskatchewan and its Fire Department are welcoming two brand new fire trucks to their fleet very soon.
The Fire Department is seeking help from the community in naming these new fire trucks. The contest will be open to children who reside in Fort Saskatchewan, aged 5-12 (elementary school). Each qualified child can submit two names, one for each truck and contest activity. Winning names will then be voted on by the general public.
Submissions will be accepted at:

EICS Transportation
Elk Island Catholic School (EICS) Transportation is pleased to share with the EICS community that there is now increased awareness for parents and guardians regarding EICS bus arrivals and possible delays through our transportation software program BusPlanner. This new app will allow parents and caregivers to see the details of current routes, stops and transfers relating to their children on EICS transportation.
With this new system parents gain access to the following:
- The BusPlanner Parent Portal, located here: https://eics.mybusplanner.ca/Default.aspx which allows parents to view details of the routes, stops and transfers for their children.
- The BusPlanner Notification System for email alerts to parents for issues which impact transportation on a route by route or school by school basis.
- The BusPlanner Delays app which both parents and students can install on a mobile (hand-held) device and allows them to subscribe to and receive BusPlanner notifications through push notifications.
Parents, please take the time to create an account for the BusPlanner Parent Portal and subscription to receive notifications of transportation delays or school closures through email. Please click here for further instructions - thank you.
Please know, it will be through this portal that all notifications will be vetted. There will no longer be emails or phone calls directly from EICS transportation regarding route cancellations or late buses.
Notifications will come to you through Bus Planner, so please subscribe.
In faith,
Your EICS Transportation Department

EICS FAMILY WELLNESS WORKER
Service Delivery
Each school is staffed with a Family Wellness Worker (FWW), who works under the direction of their School Principal and the Assistant Superintendent of Faith & Wellness. FWW's receive clinical guidance from a Registered Psychologist.
The primary function of the Family Wellness team is to provide social and emotional support to students and families. Family Wellness Workers meet with students and parents to assess needs, set goals, identify required supports, and plan appropriate interventions.
They collaborate with school system staff and community resources to build a “village” of support around students/families who are struggling.
Referrals
Parental consent is required for FWW services.
Referrals to the Family Wellness Program may be made by students, parents/guardians, school administration, teachers, or other school staff (e.g. school counsellor or collaborative response coordinator).
Parents and guardians can access these services by speaking with the Principal or contacting the school's Family Wellness Worker directly.
