LaCrosse Play-by-Play
News from Mrs. LaCrosse's 2nd Grade Classroom!
Sharing Great Writing!
Persuading Our Partners!
Reading Out Loud!
Hello, Families!
I hope you had a wonderful week!
Third quarter began on Monday! In order to facilitate an easy transition to third grade, second grade is now placing greater emphasis on AR reading. Each child is assigned a color, or a range of colors, and takes a computerized quiz after the completion of a book. Students earn 1 sticker per point earned, and it goes up on our AR SUPERSTARS chart! The children are loving this novelty reading "competition"!
As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Have a wonderful weekend!
Please ask your child:
Writing
- Tell me about the writing you did this week (persuasive writing convincing readers to read a book the student recommended).
- Mrs. LaCrosse made notes on your first draft. What did you do well? What did you need to improve upon?
Reading
- Tell me what you know about character traits. What are some traits?
- Tell me about Alexander's character (from Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day).
- You read Jack and the Beanstalk and Kate and the Beanstalk. How are they alike? How are they different?
Math
- You know how to do problems with a missing addend, like 5 + x = 14. Show me how to do this!
- What are some different ways you can find the missing addend (count on, subtract, use a hundreds chart or number line)?
Please continue to encourage your child's use of IXL at home to support the learning at school!
