A Message from the Principal
Greetings,
Every day is a great day at Maple, but today was a LOT of fun. Thirty students who participated in the Walk-A-Thon were randomly chosen to turn Mr. Leeke into a human sundae. What a hoot! Kudos to Mr. Leeke for always being willing to do crazy things with our students in the name of fun. All our students love him and enjoyed watching the event this afternoon. Check out the pictures, can you imagine?! Our 4th graders did a fantastic job of exemplifying our core values on their trip to Conner Prairie today too. If you have a 4th grade student, be sure to ask them about today’s field trip.
I need your help! A theme I hear from teachers is they need more TIME. Have you looked at the IN Academic Standards for your child’s grade level? You can see them here: https://www.doe.in.gov/standards I think it’s important you know teachers have to insure each student in their classroom has mastered all of these standards. I have one thing you could REALLY help us with and it’s KEYBOARDING. We use Typing.com. If you have a computer with internet access at home, please have your child practice an hour a week. This can be four 15 minute sessions for younger students or two 30 minute sessions for older students. Goals: 2nd Grade = 10 words per minute, 3rd Grade = 15 words per minute, and 4th Grade = 20 words per minute.
Tomorrow is the first day of fall and I believe it’s finally going to cool down this weekend! Enjoy some time outside!
Sincerely,
Nikki Harrison

A Message from Your School Counselor
College Go! Week is Sept. 24 through 28. We will be engaging in some fun activities here at school to promote anticipation and interest in college life and I would encourage you to take this opportunity to talk to your children about their options after high school. Here are three specific things you can do:
- Take some time for a conversation about what your child wants to do after high school and how they are preparing even now.
- Encourage your child to dress in the colors of your favorite college on Friday, Sept. 28. It would be great if they even had a t-shirt or sweatshirt from your alma mater!
- Finally, we hope to have some college students here next Friday at lunch to talk about their experiences. On Thursday evening, prep your children on what they might want to ask these students about what college is like.
