FROM CHIDDIX IMC: TIPS TO HELP YOUR CHARGER KEEP READING OVER WINTER BREAK
It’s important for middle school students to continue to read independently during time away from school so they can maintain the growth they’ve made this semester, to develop understanding and empathy, and to learn new information about our world. Mrs. Glatt is sharing these tips to help you keep your Charger on the reading road this Winter Break.
Stock up on books: Encourage your student to visit the IMC to select recreational reading materials to bring home on or before 12/16. All books checked out in December will be due after Winter Break.
Need even more books? Visit the Normal and/or Bloomington Public Library (your card works at both) or see if the BPL bookmobile will be making a stop in your neighborhood.Ebooks are an option: Chargers may use eRead Illinois and ComicsPlus to access ebooks, audiobooks, and online comics and graphic novels through their school chromebooks or a phone or tablet. Find links to these resources on the IMC’s catalog site. Trouble logging in? Chargers can access step-by-step instructions in the IMC Google Classroom.
Take reading on the road: Traveling during break? Check out an audiobook from eRead Illinois’ Axis 360 app or via Libby or hoopla with your public library card. If you’ve got bluetooth in your vehicle the whole family can enjoy an audiobook played via the free apps available on your phone. Or students can use earbuds/headphones and their device to enjoy an audio on their own.
Make time to read as a family: Kids of all ages enjoy it when adults read to them. And they also benefit from seeing adults read for enjoyment, too. Perhaps 10 to 20 minutes is available during your day to set aside as family reading time.
Complete a Winter Break reading challenge: You can google to find a number of free reading calendars and challenges to add even more fun to Winter Break reading. You’ll find everything from “Read a book with snow on the cover” to “Read while snuggling with a favorite animal (real or stuffed).” Here’s just one option that we recommend checking out.

Attention 8th grade Parents...

Help support our CJHS PTO Unraiser!!
Thank you to all our families who have donated to our PTO Unraiser! We still need your help!!
Each year, the Chiddix PTO asks all families for a financial contribution to help our PTO. 100% of the money raised will be used at Chiddix for students and teachers. A suggested donation of $25 per family will provide extra support for CJHS students and staff.
The “unraiser” provides another option for parents and guardians to financially support the CJHS PTO since this is our one and only school fundraiser!! In previous years, your contribution has helped to provide funding for additional classroom materials such as document cameras for the Math Department, Digital Projector for the IMC, laminating materials for the office, and teacher appreciation days just to name a few.
Please complete the form below or contribute online via PayPal:

Any questions, please email chiddixpto@gmail.com. Thank you for your support of the Chiddix PTO and Chiddix Jr. High!
