HPES Update
3/30/2020
Staff,
By now, I hope that you have all had a chance to read through the district email from Dr. Killian which contained detailed instructions for how we will proceed with remote learning. On Thursday we met with our GLL's and provided guidance on how to proceed as a campus with our District's Remote Learning plan. I hope after meeting with your team on Thursday that you have a better understanding and feeling more at ease. We will meet with each grade level team on Monday for a brief 30 min SWAT to touch base with you, see how things are going so far, and try to answer any questions you may have. Monday will be our first official day with Remote Learning, and I have no doubt that you will do amazing! Try not to stress and take it one day at a time. We have great work ahead of us to accomplish together! I can’t wait to “see” you all tomorrow! Missing you and our students!
Warm Regards,
Lizbeth

Student Work Packets
Parent Packets will be available for pick up at any meal curbside locations. Parents just need to stop by, and provide the students grade level. Drop off of packets has not yet been decided on. As soon as I get information I will send it your way.
If your team is planning on sending a separate lesson to the ones available online, please make sure that you make exceptions for those students who do not have technology and allow them pick up a packet curbside at the meal locations. Parents are also able to print packets at home.
If you have any students picking up a packet, you will need to pre-record yourself teaching the lesson and send this out to their parents.
Locations are the same as the Curbside Meal campuses listed above.
Instructional Guidance
Please make sure you are referencing the information below as you plan student learning going forward. Online version of the learning packets have been posted on the site. Feel free to use these as a starting point for your lesson planning. The packets are just a starting point. Grade level teams need to use your team planning time to work together to design learning remote learning experiences for students that align with the posted scope and sequence.

District Electronic Guidelines
As you explore and consider different technology platforms for your communication, please continue to follow District Electronic Guidelines.
See highlights below.
An employee who communicates electronically with students shall observe the following:
- The employee is prohibited from knowingly communicating with students using any form of electronic communications, including mobile and web applications, that are not provided or accessible by the district unless a specific exception is noted below.
- Only an administrator, teacher, or other certified or licensed employee may use a group text application, like Remind, if all of the following protocol are followed:
- For non-administrators, the employee must annually complete a form requesting permission to use a group texting application (disclosing the application to be used and the intended purpose of using a group text application) to his or her campus principal, and the employee must have received written approval from the campus principal authorizing the use of the group text application.
- The employee using the group text application must ensure that the settings for the group text application are set for one-way communication only at all times.
- The employee using the group text application must ensure that the settings for the group text application are set so that users cannot see the names of others (students or parents) that are using the group text application.
- A copy of each message sent must be sent to the employee’s district email.
Only a teacher, trainer, or other employee who has an extracurricular duty may use text messaging (other than through a group text application mentioned above), and then only to communicate with students who participate in the extracurricular activity over which the employee has responsibility. An employee who communicates with a student using text messaging shall comply with the following protocol:
- The employee shall include at least one of the student’s parents or guardians as a recipient on each text message to the student so that the student and parent receive the same message;
- The employee shall include his or her immediate supervisor as a recipient on each text message to the student so that the student and supervisor receive the same message
- For each text message addressed to one or more students, the employee shall send a copy of the text message to the employee’s district email address.
- For all electronic communications, the employee shall limit communications to matters within the scope of the employee’s professional responsibilities (e.g., for classroom teachers, matters relating to class work, homework, and tests; for an employee with an extracurricular duty, matters relating to the extracurricular activity).
The employee is prohibited from knowingly communicating with students through a personal social network page; the employee must create a separate social network page (“professional page”) for the purpose of communicating with students. The employee must seek written approval from the employee’s supervisor annually to establish and maintain a professional social network page. The employee must give a designated administrator administrative rights to the social network page and provide parents notice and access to the employee’s professional page. The employee, not the designated administrator, is responsible for the content of the professional page.
The employee does not have a right to privacy with respect to communications with students and parents.
