Gates Notes & News
October 7, 2022
We had a fantastic September! It's hard to believe that we are into October already. This month is filled with events and activities including the Book Fair, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Halloween, and Intersession break right around the corner! In the sections below you will find more information on all of these events.
In my opinion, this month's most exciting event is Parent-Teacher Conferences as it connects parents and teachers around a child. The staff is excited to have an opportunity to sit down and talk with you about your child(ren)'s progress. By working together as a 'home and school team', we increase the likelihood of student success and growth. If you haven't already, please ensure you have confirmed your child's conference time. Additionally, if something arises and you cannot make your scheduled time, please call the Gates office and we will get a message to the teacher.
Thank you for taking the time to read this edition of the Gates Notes and News!
Most Sincerely,
Natalie Miller
Proud Gates Principal
The Book Fair is Now OPEN!
Any student who brings money to school to purchase books should let their teacher know and then teachers can allow them to visit the library when class time permits. The Book Fair will be open through Thursday, October 13th. Monday through Wednesday the Book Fair will be open during school hours for students to shop. It will also be open during conferences on Wednesday and Thursday evenings for parents to browse.
Also for shopping convenience, Scholastic has set up an online shopping opportunity for Gates families!

Halloween
Teachers at each grade level are working to finalize their plans for this special day and will be communicating with families. Please understand that due to safety and space limitations, we will be limiting the number of parents that are allowed into the building for parties. Only those parents selected by the teacher to volunteer will be allowed to visit the classroom on this day.
HELP WANTED
Mobile Dentist Visits Gates October 21st!
Davison Community Schools is pleased to announce that Smile Programs, a mobile dentist program, will once again be visiting many of our school buildings this year. Gates visit is scheduled for October 21st. Those interested in utilizing this special service should return their completed form no later than Monday, October 17th. Online registration is also available at https://www.myschooldentist.com/Default.aspx by typing in your ZIP code and then selecting your student’s school building.
This program is intended to provide an additional resource for students in need of dental care. If a child already has a dentist, it is recommended they stay with that dentist. We are seeking to help children in need, who do not see a dentist regularly so they can be provided with the care they need and deserve. The Smiles program is a Medicaid provider for ages 1-18, which means all services are covered 100 percent and the company bills Medicaid directly. Children with no insurance will receive a free cleaning, screening and fluoride. Smiles Program will consider treating students with private insurance and offer donated care upon request.
Smile Programs mobile dentistry uses the latest technology in portable equipment, bringing dental services directly to your student’s school. A licensed dentist, hygienist and assistant will set up a mini dental clinic in the school and they will provide a comprehensive dental exam. Comprehensive care includes a complete exam, X-rays, cleaning, fluoride, sealants, fillings, baby tooth extractions, pulpotomy and stainless steel crowns. Work is billed through insurance for services rendered. In addition, Smile Programs will work with the health department and local dentists to provide referrals of children who need additional dental care beyond what can be done in a school setting as well as share digital X-rays. To view the list of participating dentists, please go to www.mobiledentists.com, scroll to parents, then to referral dentists and select Michigan.
