Volunteer Opportunity: Equity Team

Gananda Central School District is looking for parents, alumni and students to join the Equity Team! The Equity Team advises the administration when developing and implementing specific initiatives around the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion commitments developed by the team and adopted by the Board of Education. This includes reviewing practices designed to promote diversity, prevent discrimination, and assure equitable access to high-quality educational staff, facilities, and materials to maximize student achievement for all students.

The Equity team meets late afternoon or early evening every other month for two hours. The first meeting is January 27 from 4:30pm-6:30pm. Interested parents, alumni and students should contact Kelly VanLaeken at kvanlaeken@gananda.org or 315-986-3521.

TIES Program

Promoting participation in extracurricular and community activities, the TIES (Together Including Every Student) program provides effective support for children and young adults with developmental disabilities.
The program, sponsored through Gananda Central School District, is currently seeking both volunteers to help participants with developmental disabilities join activities, and participants who want to learn about their community and have fun with peers. Students in grades 8-12 are eligible to volunteer in the program, and youth between the ages of 8-21 are eligible to participate in the program.

Visit the Gananda website for more information and to fill out an application.

If you are interested in volunteering, participating, or have questions about TIES, contact TIES Coordinator Jennifer Letendre or ganandaties@gananda.org.

Gananda Backpack Program

Gananda Central School District is proud to inform you that we are continuing the Gananda Backpack Program for the 2021-2022 school year! The program has been a great success for the last several years and we continue to expand our service and make modifications to the program to better meet the needs of our students and families.

The program is free to join, and will continue through the entire school year. If you choose to sign up, the Gananda Backpack Program will provide a bag of non-perishable food to your child towards the end of each week to eat over the weekend. Students who are enrolled will have their bags sent home with them on either Thursday or Friday. High school and middle school students will need to pick their bags up from the office. Elementary students will have their bags sent home in their backpacks.

To enroll your child in the program, please email Sue Thoen at sthoen@gananda.org and include the following information in the email:

Student name, grade level, address, phone number, best email and any allergies.

Your email will serve as implied consent to begin deliveries. Once an email is received deliveries will start the following Friday.

If you have any questions, please contact Gananda Backpack Program Director Sue Thoen at 315-986-3521, ext. 1824.
