Bulldog Bulletin
New Britton Elementary - September 4, 2015
Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families,
Children are naturally curious. Why does a rainbow appear? How does the garbage truck arm pick up my recycling bin? Why do birds circle over a certain area at the same time every day? How can I make a difference in my neighborhood or community? An area of focus for us at New Britton this year is inquiry. When students are engaged in inquiry and have voice and choice in their learning, there are amazing outcomes.
Teachers and support staff will be spending time on our upcoming half-day, September 11th, involved in learning more about creating standards-based projects to enhance student learning. I encourage you to find ways at home to involve your children in inquiry. When I think back to my childhood, the things that I remember most are things I learned by doing: building and exploring on my grandparent’s farm, helping my dad fix things at home (learning about how things work), learning how to knit with my mom…the list goes on and on. There are so many opportunities both at school and home in which we can help our children make sense of the world around them.
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education. Have a safe and relaxing three-day weekend.
Lori Mankin, Principal

Chaucie's Place
NEW BRITTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is partnering again this year with Chaucie’s Place, a child advocacy organization in Hamilton County, to bring Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children to our Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Smart Steps is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that empowers your child to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches that make them uncomfortable from anyone.
The Smart Steps education program will be taught at NBE on October 20.
We invite you to attend a Chaucie’s Place Parent Night to learn more about the Smart Steps program. Fall Creek Elementary will be hosting on Tuesday, September 15th from 6:00pm-7:00pm and Sand Creek Elementary will be hosting from 6:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, September 23rd. These meetings are open to all parents and/or guardians of Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Please be advised that Parent Night is not open to children. To learn more about Chaucie’s Place visit: www.chauciesplace.org.
