Sierra Verde Weekly Update

February 19, 2021

We are #PublicSchoolProud

We hope everyone enjoyed their 3-day weekend, and continues to enjoy the gorgeous Arizona weather while the rest of the country battles snow and ice. Our Vipers worked hard this week as we crossed the half way mark of 3rd quarter.

Monday starts Public School Week! Every family and individual is an important part of our community and success. Help us promote Sierra Verde by sharing your #publicschoolproud story on our social media sites: Facebook and Twitter. Even though this year has brought our school and community unexpected challenges, Sierra Verde is proud to share a rare opportunity: open enrollment availability!!

Help us spread the good word and #gopublic on your social media for Sierra Verde. Tell your family and friends: join Sierra Verde where #onceaviperalwaysaviper and #anythingispossible! We can't wait to welcome new and former members into our #SVviperden. For more information on how to tell your friends to enroll at Sierra Verde, follow this link or call 623-376-4800. Tag us @SVViperPride on Twitter, or mention us on Facebook and use the hashtags #iloveDVschools #publicschoolproud & #onceaviperalwaysaviper .

Big picture

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Next week we will hold our parent teacher conferences over zoom. This year we are pausing on our typical student-led conferences for spring in light of the logistical challenges of doing these on zoom. By now, you have received the available appointment times from your homeroom teacher or grade level team to book your spot. If you have any questions about this please reach out to your homeroom teacher ASAP. Next Thursday and Friday are both early release days and students are dismissed at 12:05 so all teachers can be available for conferences.

Tax Time

Don't miss out on making your money count this tax season! Make a Tax Credit Donation directly to Sierra Verde online at https://dvusd.org/taxcredit or drop a check/money order off in the front office.

A state tax credit will allow you to reduce the amount of your tax liability to the state OR increase your refund from the state. Anyone with or without children, married or single is eligible for this unprecedented state tax credit up to $400 married/$200 single (please consult your tax advisor to determine how the tax credit will affect your personal tax return).

Donations received between January 1 - April 15 can be applied to previous year taxes or the current year Arizona state taxes.

Spot & Treat Anxiety in Your Child

As we continue to press on towards state testing this Spring, we know this can be an anxiety-triggering event for many students. We also know that school and grade anxiety is on the rise this year more than ever due to the pandemic. Our staff is always on the lookout to help students with anxiety, but we know parents and guardians are on the front line with battling anxiety at home. Scholastic Parents has some actionable steps to take as well as some red flags to watch for in your children. If you are noticing anxiety in your child, reach out to us so we can help tackle this problem together.

SV PTSO Papa Johns Pizza Night on Sunday

This Sunday, February 21st, is a Papa John's spirit day/night for Sierra Verde. It's a great day to enjoy a fun pizza meal with the family while also helping out your school. 20% of all orders will be donated back to SV, check out the flier below for more details!

Lunch Menu Change for Monday 2/22

Due to some mechanical issues, on Monday, our lunch menu will change. Students will have chicken nuggets instead of Mac & Cheese.

Covid Reporting/Face Mask/Water Bottle Reminder

As always, please continue to report a positive Covid result for any student, or a confirmed close contact with a positive person. Once you are aware of either of these two circumstances, please report the positive result or close contact using the DVUSD reporting tool. This will then notify Sierra Verde and we will get in touch with you to determine how long the student must quarantine before returning to campus.

DVUSD New Early Relase from Close Contact Quarantine Policy:

A student can be released early from the 10 day quarantine and may return on Day 8 or after if the student receives a negative COVID-19 test result beginning on Day 6 of the quarantine or after and the student has been symptom free since exposure. (Day 0 is the most recent date of close contact exposure to the COVID-19 positive person.) Proof of a negative test must be provided to the school before the student will be allowed to return.

Also, please remember to send students to school with a refillable water bottle or hydroflask that they can refill throughout the day along with at least two facemasks in case they get dropped or soiled. We always have extras of both on campus, but we are quickly running through our supply.

Have a Great Weekend!
