August 25th, 2023

Message From Mr. Mitchell
We are only a few days away from welcoming our students for the 2023-2024 school, and we are excited to get school started! With the start of school comes the start of all of our extra-curricular activities. Our volleyball and soccer teams hosted their pre-season jamborees yesterday, and our football team hosts theirs tonight (Freshmen start at 5pm and progressing to varsity at 7pm). Next week, our soccer teams open their season on Monday and Tuesday, our marching band has their public performance at 7pm on Wednesday, the volleyball team has their home opener on Thursday at 6:45pm, and our football team opens the season at West Salem on Friday night.
As a school, we have identified improving the attendance for all of our students as the goal that all of our staff will collectively be working towards this year. The state of Oregon defines a "regular attender" as a student that attends 90% or more of the school year, which many of our students meet. Over the past few years, our rate of students who do meet that definition has gone down, and we will work together in a positive way to improve that at SHS. In all areas of the school, students will be even more successful when they are here more often. There are certainly situations in which students need to be absent, i.e. illness, etc., and we completely understand those times. Our goal is to reduce the additional absences which occur throughout the year, as any absence, excused or not excused, is time that students are not able to access instruction, collaboration, support, their teachers, their peers, activities, clubs, athletics, and many other positive aspects of the school. More information will be shared throughout the year, as well as supports and services around attendance for any families who may need them. We enjoy having our students on campus, and we want to see them as many days as possible!
We hope to see you all at our open house on Monday, Aug. 28 (see below for more information)!
Have a great weekend, and Go Bowmen!
Adam Mitchell
Principal, SHS

Schedule Release and Schedule Change Requests
Student schedules will be released at approximately 4pm on Friday, August 25th, 2023. Student schedules can be viewed by logging into ParentVue or StudentVue. If you prefer, you can still link directly to ParentVue and StudentVue via the Sherwood High School main page.
There will be very little room for movement or changes. Schedules are subject to change by counselors until the first day of school. Students who wish to request a schedule change must complete a schedule change request form.
Due to the complexity and size of the schedule, schedule changes will only be allowed for the following reasons:
Incomplete schedule
Inappropriate placement (such as Geometry if a student hasn’t completed Algebra)
Errors such as an A and B section during the same trimester or the B section before the A section
Elective changes may be requested for electives in the same period/trimester only. You may not request to rearrange any or all of your assigned courses to different periods. LINK to Master Schedule of Elective options each period.
Schedule changes will not be made for any of the following reasons:
Teacher changes
Switching class periods
Requesting a different lunch
Requests based on involvement in athletics
We will begin accepting Schedule Change Requests once schedules have been released, but changes will not be made until after school begins. Schedule changes cannot be requested by phone or email. Please note that very few schedule change requests will be granted. Counselors will not be available to meet with students about their schedules until after the first week of school. The last day to change your schedule without a Withdrawal/F is Thursday, September 7th, 2023.
Open House
There will be an optional open house at Sherwood High School on Monday, August 28th from 12:00pm-8:00pm. This will be a time when students and their families can come to the school and walk their schedules, find their lockers, pay fees (cash or check only), drop off medications and forms, and tour the building. This is an optional event, and students will be able to do all of these activities on their first days of school as well.
Parking Permits
The parking permit application is only accessible from a Sherwood School District student Google account. The easiest way to access the application is to have the student applying access the application on their District issued Chromebook. The Parking Permit application for Juniors and Seniors is currently available, and contains further information about the permitting process. Sophomores may begin applying on Monday, September 11th.
PSAT
The PSAT-NMSQT will be offered on Oct. 11th, 2023. Testing will occur at the Sherwood District Office. Students are required to provide their own transportation. The PSAT is an optional test recommended for Juniors but also open to Sophomores. (We will be offering the P-ACT to Sophomores this Fall). The test will be administered digitally. Registration is limited to 125 students and is open now through September 4th. Students who register for the PSAT will have a non-refundable test fee of $26 added to their student accounts. Please register here for the test. For more information about the PSAT, contact CollegeBoard. For questions about registration, please contact the Career Center.
SHS Athletics
We are committed to a welcoming environment that promotes fair play and respect for all and expect the same from our spectators. We request your cooperation in supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner. Go Bowmen!
Admission to Sporting Events
All spectators (except senior citizens and ASB students) will be charged an admission fee for varsity football and all levels of volleyball. Ticket gates for varsity football will open at 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. for all levels of volleyball. The cost to attend sporting events this year is adults $8 and students $5. Playoff games will charge for all fall sports.
High school students who purchase an ASB sticker will be allowed in for free except for playoff games. Senior citizens will be allowed in for free except for playoff games. All students (regardless of the ASB sticker) and senior citizens will be charged for playoff games. Playoff game prices are determined by the OSAA and change depending on the level of playoff.
