Monday Minutes
January 7, 2019
If you're like me, two weeks is just enough time to get off schedule - to stay up later, wake up later, eat lunch at a different time, etc. The first week back is always brutal for me - my alarm goes of at 5:00 am and I just groan for the first few days until I get back into the routine. Despite the early morning groans, I find that I enjoy the routine. Believe it or not, our students respond in the same way. They thrive in an environment where they know the routine and expectations. They'll be tired when they come back to school on Tuesday, but they'll also be glad to see you and their classmates. So greet them at the door with a smile or a high five and let them know that you're glad to see them. They'll be eager to share news of what they've been up to for the last two weeks. Let them. They'll want to know what you've been doing while you've been away. Share with them. Also, take the time to practice the routines and procedures you had in place prior to break. Taking a small amount of time now with pay off in the long run!
Here are a few notes about what's happening at Bethany.
We will begin Monday morning in the library at 8:00 with a quick welcome, followed by Education Galaxy training. Following the training, you will have the day to work with your teams, plan, and get ready for the semester. We have a full week ahead of us! Please note that the Assessment department will be here on Wednesday during team planning for training about Edugence, MAP, and PES. This is for all teaching staff. For those of you that are not grade level teachers, please attend the planning time that most closely aligns with your planning time.
College week is next week. Andi has already sent out the flyer letting you know the themes for each day. I have attached it at the bottom of this newsletter for your reference. Please feel free to wear jeans on the days that you participate. Please see Andi's email regarding graduation photos.
Finally - a couple of quick reminders. With the exception of College Week (when you are participating in the theme days and wearing jeans), our normal jeans days are Mondays with a PPA shirt and Fridays with Bethany spirit wear. Tuesday through Thursday is professional attire. If you have questions about this, please ask me. If you are planning on taking a personal day, please use the appropriate form and place it in my box. If you are sick and need to take the day unexpectedly, please text (214-738-6014) or email me. Thank you!
I'm looking forward to a wonderful semester with you!
