Learner Report
By: Khushi
This week in reading we started our unit about the book, “The One and Only Ivan” and did activities with the book such as separating fact and fiction. In writing, we wrote poems about the different forms of energy and in math, we continued to review what we had learned this whole year. To add on, in science we started our unit on structures & function and conducted an experiment about bird's feet/mouths. Finally, in social studies, we did a BrainPOP quiz on the Cold War and discussed it in posts.
Well, are you running out of books to read and need some recommendations? If you need book recommendations I have some perfect books for 5th—6th graders of all genres!

Hello Lee Families!
We are so happy that you're interested in joining PTO Board here at CMSW! There are volunteer opportunities to match just about anyone's interests and availability. Our West PTO does great work to support the students and staff year after year. Volunteering your time on the PTO is a great way to stay plugged into what's happening on campus. Also, your child is likely to think you're really cool for helping out! If you're interested in joining our Board, please fill out this google form. We kindly request you to fill out the interest form by April 11th. Our Parliamentarian, Urmi Subramanian, will contact you with more information soon after the deadline. We look forward to working with you!

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
READING & WRITING
Reading this week, we started a new unit that incorporates all we learned this year in our reading workshop. We will be reading the book, "The One and Only Ivan" and completing a workflow that focuses on four guiding questions. In Language Arts, we worked on a creative writing activity about writing a poem on the different types of energy.
MATH
In Math, continued working on the area, perimeter, and volume. Learners performed multiple number talks on the subject and began worked on review sets to reinforce their learning.
SCIENCE
In Science, continued our unit on life science. We learned about inherent traits and adaptation. We did a fun experiment learning how birds used their beaks.
SOCIAL STUDIES
In Social Studies, we are studying the Cold War and technological inventions of the 20th century.
All elementary learners have access to free breakfast and lunch through the remainder of this school year.
Important Information
Student Zoom Sign In Update: Please make sure that learners log into ZOOM with their g.coppellisd.com accounts starting on Monday, August 31st. If you would like more information, please view this website.
Schoology: As we continue with virtual learning, Schoology is a very important tool during this time. We know some of our learners are using the app, but it is best for them to use the web-based version: https://schoology.coppellisd.com/
Learners need to make sure they are completing and submitting all of their work for each course since that is how we are taking attendance. In addition, although online learning is taking place at home, learners should be starting and finishing their work on their own as they would in-person at school.
Lee Specials Quarterly Newsletter: Our specials team puts out a newsletter each week. Check it out!
Box Tops: Did you know you can SCAN Box Tops and earn money for our school with items you already purchase for your home? Learn more about this quick and easy way to help our school.
