From the Office of Stephanie Hubbard: The Board of Education
The Iowa-Grant School District Board of Education might not be something that you think about very often, but these elected individuals are our local champions for the betterment of our District. During the month of April, spring elections occur and the Board will reorganize. Please be sure to vote on April 2nd. Elected board members will sign the oath of office and the full board will reorganize at our second April board meeting which will be held on April 22nd. Our Board has a President, Vice-President, Clerk, and Treasurer. Board members also serve on various committees including: Negotiations-Personnel, Finance, Building-Grounds-Transportation, and Curriculum. Board members are appointed as representatives to Boards such as: CESA #3 Board of Control, Iowa-Grant Education Foundation Board (IGEF), and Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) Representative. As the Board reorganizes, they will also determine the 19-20 Board meeting dates and times.
The most important responsibility of our school board is to work with our community to improve student achievement. Our board has taken this charge very seriously as shown by the community involvement in hiring myself,(the superintendent), and by over half a dozen additional Board working sessions during which board members have prioritized goals and are working to make these goals specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. Other responsibilities of the board include: developing and adopting policies, curriculum, and the budget, overseeing facilities issues, and adopting collective bargaining agreements. Individuals may learn more about the Iowa-Grant School Board by visiting our website at: https://www.igs.k12.wi.us/our_district/board_of_education.
PLEASE TAKE ACTION: ANNUAL CENSUS
We have had very limited response from parents regarding the Annual Census. By State and Federal law, we are required to take a school census each year as well as research on suspected handicapped children.. Please take a minute now and complete this year's census electronically by going to: https://goo.gl/forms/4LMNhT3Sx17Pcyly2 . You will be asked to Include all children in your home, ages birth to twenty one. Only one form per household is needed. (If you fill it out electronically you do not need to also complete a paper copy.) Paper copies will be available at the building offices. If electing to complete the paper version, please return it to the school building where your children attend or return it to the district office: 498 County IG, Livingston, WI 53554. It is very important that we know which village or township you reside as this is how we report census to the State of Wisconsin.
Help Children with Disabilities - Keep $600 Million Investment for Special Education in Budget
Governor Evers is proposing a 60% reimbursement rate for special education funding in his budget, up from the current 24.5%. This would invest $600 million state dollars into special education, reducing pressure on local districts that are currently providing most of the funding. Some legislative leaders do not believe this investment is necessary. Please take the following very short survey and consider sharing a picture of your child/family so we can let legislators know how important it is to adequately fund special education. The Survival Coalition of Wisconsin Disability Organizations is collecting these stories to share with legislators.

Meningitis Vaccine
Meningitis is a serious infection of the covering of the brain and the spinal cord. This infection can be treated with antibiotics, however, many people who get this disease die and many are affected for life. This vaccine is highly recommended for adolescents 11-18 years of age.
This vaccine is important for people at highest risk, mainly college freshmen living in dormitories. Many colleges and vocational schools require or strongly encourage this vaccine.
Two doses are recommended: the first dose at age 11 or 12 and then a booster dose at age 16. If the first dose is given after the 16th birthday, a booster is not needed.
This vaccine is available at your doctor’s office for those with medical insurance. It is available at the Iowa County Health Department for those who are uninsured or who have BadgerCare. To make an appointment to the vaccine there, please call 930-9870. It is also available at the Grant County Health Department, Lancaster, 8:00-4:30, Monday-Friday, no appointment needed.

Parents of 4K and 5th Grade Students
A note was recently sent home with those 4K students who need the required immunizations before school starts in the fall.
Current 5th grade students must receive a Tdap, tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) immunization before they enter 6th grade.
Students with health insurance will need to have their immunizations done by their primary health care provider/clinic. Those who are uninsured or have Badgercare may get theirs at the Iowa or Grant County health department, free of charge.

National Juggling Champion and movement artist Peter Davison presented juggling, unicycling, balancing, acrobatics, and more, while teaching the science behind the artistry. LocoMotion was a captivating mix of education and entertainment. Much more than a "science demonstration," Peter mixed awesome circus skills with dance and physical theater in a unique presentation that engaged all ages. Human and machine locomotion, Newton's Laws of Motion, center of gravity, gyroscopic action, centrifugal and centripetal forces, friction, and other physical phenomena were revealed.
Iowa-Grant welcomes Chip Minton on April 2nd. Mr. Minton is a presenter for Sports World, Inc. which provides free presentations by accomplished athletes who encourage positive choices.
