Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
February 19th-22nd
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Science: This week we will be starting our unit on Plants and Animals. Students will be learning about the life cycles of plants and how to classify plants. They will take a short quiz over Lessons 1 and 2 on Friday. We will also get a chance to grow some fast growing plants in class and chart their growth each week. Next week we will start Lessons 3 and 4 on the life cycles of animals and how to classify animals.
- Ms. Uhlenhake/Mrs. Leonard/Mrs. Thurston's Math and ELA: In ELA, we will continue our historical fiction book clubs. Spelling is continuing and check with your child's teacher about which day his or her test is on. In writing, we will continue working on literary essays and how to show evidence from a story to prove our thesis. In math we will finish our decimal unit and take a unit test on Friday. Mrs. Thurston's class will also have their timed test on 6s and 7s on Friday.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math and ELA:This week in ELA, we will review theme and then use that knowledge to construct a literary essay on the theme of a story. Students should also be working on finishing their novels and preparing for Friday book club. The whole novel is due on 3/1. Spelling words will be given out on Wednesday and Thursday of this week and spelling tests will be next week. In math, we will finish up our unit on decimals and students will take their unit test on decimals on Friday. Just a reminder that spiral reviews are due each day and the challenge questions can count as bonus points on tests. Also, a HUGE thank you to my math stars parents. We are about half way through this program, and I can already tell that the students are improving with their problem solving strategies. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING IN AND HELPING WITH THIS!!

From Ms. Macanas
Hi Parents,
This week is going to be jam packed with learning! We will be continuing on with decimals in math. As a reminder, for the GT math spirals, please encourage your students to try the challenge at the end of the sheet for extra practice. If they solve the problems correctly, they will receive extra credit.
In ELA, we finished our first literary essays based on character traits last week and we're going to use our knowledge about literary essays and move forward with writing another literary essay based on themes.
We're holding off on social studies at the moment and picking science back up for the next few weeks. Please review the notes for the life cycles of plants and animals with your students.
