    Thank you BVN Parents!

Dear Blue Valley North Parents and Students,

Thanks to all of you for making American Education Week such a special week! The balloons and delicious and thoughtful treats on Monday were amazing and such a surprise. The teachers and staff enjoyed it all week long!

The Mustang Club breakfast on Tuesday was so good and was such a beautiful presentation. Thanks to everyone that brought in food and cooked breakfast casseroles early in the morning. The staff was in awe of all the food. And everyone is still enjoying the beautiful flowers.

We are grateful for all of our Mustangs, and hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving week with your family and friends.

    Sincerely,

    Your Mustang Family

Kudos and Celebrations ~ We are Mustang Proud!

    Math Team

The BVN math team of Luke Chen, Sriram Kalki, Lillian Xia, Quinten Schafer, Max Zhang, Sean Akkulugari and Matthew Chen competed on November 15 at the Math Day sponsored by Washburn University, with 190 students from 25 Kansas schools.

They finished 1st in the team competition (highest three scorers were Sriram Kalki, Luke Chen and Lillian Xia), and earned individual medals for:

1st place non-seniors and highest overall scorer (Sriram Kalki),

    2nd place non-seniors (Lillian Xia),

    1st place seniors (Luke Chen),

Honorable mentions (Matthew Chen and Max Zhang)

The team placed second in the Mathnificent Race, a scavenger hunt on the Washburn University campus. Team members looked for information required to solve a sequence of math problems as quickly as possible. Congratulations to all team members!

    All-National Honor Ensembles

The weekend of November 4, two of BVN’s finest did an amazing job representing their school by attending the NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles in Washington, DC. Here is a link with more information: https://nafme.org/programs/all-national-honor-ensembles/

Oliver Zhang, BVN senior, was a part of the Concert Band Ensemble. This was his third year attending. Here is a link to the nation-wide honorees performing:

    https://nafme.org/programs/all-national-honor-ensembles/2022-all-national-honor-ensembles-concert-band-roster/

Congratulations to Noah Tarjan for making the National Association for Music Education's National Honor Choir. Noah is one of only two students in the district to achieve acceptance into this choir, and the performance, as part of the Mixed Choir Ensemble, was in Washington D.C. on November 5th. Here is a link to the nation-wide honorees performing:

https://nafme.org/programs/all-national-honor-ensembles/2022-all-national-honor-ensembles-mixed-choir-roster/ . Noah’s maternal grandparents live in Baltimore, MD, and were able to attend the concert. It was an outstanding performance!

Congratulations to Laci Olberding and Caroline Massman for their acceptance into the American Choral Directors Association National Honor Choir. This honor is bestowed upon a small number of students from each state and the performance will be in Cincinnati, Ohio, in February 2023!

    Band

Congratulations to our All-District Band Members!! The following band students earned placement the East-Central Kansas All-District Bands through a highly competitive audition. It’s a BIG accomplishment, and the first step towards earning all-state musician status - the highest individual honor given to student musicians in the state. Also, unique to this year, we have three students who made it in on two different instruments, which is truly remarkable. Congrats to all the students who completed the audition, and here are our all district band students! Matt Akridge, Aadhya Bhatia, Madi Bishop, Nolan Call, Louis Cierpiot, Nathan Condon, Garrett Dailey, Ryan Danda, Miles Kim, Hannah Kwak, Amelia Law, Eddie Mu, Ben Nix, Devereaux Knight, David Stutz, Luke Wakeman, Matthew Warner, and Zengtao Xing! Reece Toben, Dakota Raper, and Max Zhang earned placement in TWO instruments! And

Oliver Zhang was awarded All District for all four years of high school and the overall top trumpet in the district!

    Orchestra

Please congratulate the amazing students who were selected as members of the ECKMEA All-District Orchestras. We had 18 students selected and 1 student will serve as an alternate.

This is the first step in the process of getting selected as an All-State level musician. This is a rigorous and demanding process that students began preparing for last May. They will perform December 3 at Olathe West, and then attend live auditions in Salina with all other district musicians from across the entire state. Those selected for the state ensembles will then attend the KMEA State Music Educators Conference in February in Wichita. This process requires 9-10 months of practice, talent, and determination. This is only the first step in a long journey for these students. Go Mustangs Performing Arts!!!

    Student Announcements

    BVN Musical, UrineTown

The musical performances will be February 2-4. 2023. Contact Mrs. Cain or Mrs. Krulik for more information. The musical setting is in a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

    Medical Messages

    Flu & COVID

Parents it is that time of year when Flu and COVID cases start to pop up. If your student is not feeling well and has a cough with a sore throat it may be wise to keep them home and be sure they are not sick with flu or COVID. If your student has a fever with or without symptoms, they must be fever free for 24 hours without the aid of medication. Blue Valley nursing standard is fever =100 °F or above.

    Pink Eye

Pink Eye is also going around. If your student eye/eyes are red puffy and draining, they need to be seen by a medical provider. Once they have started their prescribed eye drops they may return to school.

    Rapid COVID Tests

Nurse Amanda Collichio now has district-supplied rapid COVID tests. She does not administer these tests, but can distribute them to staff and students with parent consent.

Need to speak with the nurse in person?

If you need to speak with the BVN nurse, Amanda Collichio, please e-mail her at ajcollichio@bluevalleyk12.org to set up an appointment. Thank you!

Has your student been injured or has a concussion?

Send your medical orders or documentation to ajcollichio@bluevalleyk12.org and the nurse will communicate this with your students educational team.

Did your student forget to take a daily morning medication before leaving for school?

If your student ever forgets to take a daily morning medication before coming to school, the parent may bring the medication to the school’s front office and the parent may dispense and give the student the medication. If the nurse is to give the medication, it must be in the original prescription pill bottle accompanied by the signed physician’s medical order; click on this link for the form: Authorization For Medication/Procedure to be Administered At School .
