Spreadsheets will be provided to schools soon to help you determine which students qualify for ILP-D.
Every student who met the criteria for ILP-D on the Winter screener will need to be entered into TN Pulse. Additional choices have been added to the platform to document this decision.
Schools may determine an ILP-D is not appropriate but are still required to document the reason why.
Some areas that are impacted with this new guidance are:
S-Teams no longer required for students who qualify for an ILP-D
Steps to determine eligibility for a 504 Plan for characteristics of dyslexia
504 Evaluation meetings as RTI meetings (notes will be recorded in the plan)
Documentation of other data that impacts decisions
Documentation of further diagnostic assessments to determine characteristics of dyslexia
I encourage you to attend one of our virtual sessions. There will also be a time for Q & A during this session.
Please click on the link below to join us. We plan to record the session if you are unable to attend.

Data Meetings
Data Meetings may look different as we move forward following new state guidance. The team is tasked with matching interventions with the specific area of deficit for each student, monitoring progress, and making adjustments as needed. The team needs to meet at least quarterly and after each universal screening window.
MTSS Platform
Many of you were able to attend the first training for our new MTSS platform. If you would like to view or review the training, click here. You may begin creating plans in the new platform now.

Micro Moves to Strengthen Intervention
Kindergarten Intervention
As we enter the second semester, Kindergarten students may need to enter a formal RTI2 group. How do you determine the best placement? Some suggestions include using the SPIRE placement test to determine if Sounds Sensible is appropriate. Typically, Knox County Schools uses Sounds Sensible for the lowest-performing kindergarten students (below the 10th percentile). These students require additional instruction beyond Tier 1 in phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, understanding letter-sound relationships, and print handwriting. Students who have mastered these skills may be ready to work in Voyager Book A. If you have questions or need further guidance, reach out to your facilitator. This link has a wealth of resources for Sounds Sensible and SPIRE.
Voyager Placement Grades 1-5
In an effort to address specific student needs, changes have been made in the way we place students into various interventions. We are not recommending that all students move into Voyager part B at the semester change. Students need to continue in part A if appropriate. The Voyager placement tests can be used if schools are unsure of appropriate placement. These are available in the resources section of the Voyager website. If you have students who are not making progress within the intervention program, diagnostic assessments like the PASS or PWRS can help you make instructional decisions within the intervention.
What are scaffolded conversations?
What is a “small teaching move” that you think is not as common as it should be? A “small teaching move” in this context is an action that would require very little prep, can easily be made into a routine or habit, and is likely to result in increased student engagement and learning.
