Peak at the Week!
Chancellor News and Notes, October 24-28, 2016
Parent Lunch, Vocabulary Parade, Fall Festival, Oh My!
- Red Ribbon Week (hang class posters and clothing-themed days, see below)
- Book Fair is all week! Go buy some books! :)
- Oskar the Bully (see emailed schedule) on Wednesday
- Parent Lunch on Friday- everyone eats in their classrooms in order to give plenty of room for families for lunchtime. Be flexible for late arrivals. A schedule will be sent home but things happen. :)
- Vocabulary Parade- help your students be ready! Check on their progress and if they don't create something, they can always illustrate their word on a large piece of construction paper. Everyone should have a word!
- Fall Festival- encourage ticket sales during the week (the lines get really bad during the festival when they don't pre-buy their tickets!), and please bring in your donations for the festival (bags of candy, 12 packs of soda, water bottles, or Cake Walk baked goods- jeans pass for each donation!)
- Tuesday November 1 is the 50th Day of School! 1950's Day!!
- November 1 is also Chancellor's campus Voting Day for the next President! More information will come in your email, but you may have already started using some of those fantastic election resources provided by our Social Studies district coordinator to help teach our students about the election process and the 4 candidates running for the position of President of the United States.
Red Ribbon Week is this Week!
Hang your posters this week so we can show off our Red Ribbon school spirit! All classes that participate will earn a prize for pledging to be drug and violence free! This week is also a special dress week for Red Ribbon Week:
- Monday- jeans and red shirt: "Be a "Jean"ius and Don't Do Drugs!"
- Tuesday- crazy hat day: "Put a Cap on Drugs and Violence"
- Wednesday- pink shirt and jeans with crazy socks: "Sock it to Drugs and Bullying"
- Thursday- sports team shirt: "Team up against Drugs and Bullies"
- Friday- Vocabulary Parade: "People with Good Vocabularies Don't need drugs"
The 50th Day of School is Tuesday, November 1!
Our Comet of the Week is...Helen Hilton-Jones!
Nina Nguyen has nominated Mrs. Jones, 4th grade math/science teacher, as our Comet of the Week because:
"She is really embracing 4th grade! I think she has grown so much in math. She is asking for small group support and asking questions pertaining to her students. I am really impressed with her devotion to her craft!"
Mrs. Jones will receive the Comet of the Week parking spot up front for the week, a jeans pass, a snack shack coupon, and the privilege of nominating the next Comet of the Week! Congratulations!
It's Time to Get out there and Vote! :)
From TASA, the Texas Association of School Administrators:
Early Voting Runs October 24–November 4
The General Election is November 8, and early voting runs October 24–November 4.
This election will not only determine the next U.S. president; it will determine who comes to Austin in January to make critical decisions about the future of public education in Texas. School finance, school choice, and accountability are just a few of the important issues the next Legislature is expected to address.
Many education organizations have put together materials to assist educators in getting out the vote. Below is a list of resources you can share with to help ensure educators turn out for this important election. As a government employee, you CANNOT tell anyone for whom to vote, but you can direct them to voter education resources. Below are several websites with general voter information, specifically tailored to educators, and the early voting locations list across Harris County.
