From the President

PTO! Join us! The PTO programs and events are only possible due to parental support and involvement. We want to thank you, the parents, for lending your valuable time and monetary generosity to help us succeed in these valuable programs that support the children and the SMS staff.

A special thanks to Lavon Dean-Null, Lucas Fry, and Christie Heerschop for welcoming us into the school and offering their time to help support the PTO and ultimately our school.

Our PTO meetings this year will be on Thursdays at 1 p.m. in the Large Group Instruction (LGI) room, just down the hall from the main office. Lavon Dean-Null will give a short report, and PTO committee updates will be reported as well. The dates of these meetings are as follows: September 7, October 5, November 2, No meeting in December or January, February 1, March 1, No meeting in April, May 3 All are welcome!

The PTO has several committees, and all our committees can use extra help. We will be contacting many of you that have signed up! Also, please remember, help is always needed and appreciated!

Thank you for supporting Schmucker's PTO by purchasing physical education (PE) clothes and spirit wear. All of SMS's products are supplied by Graphie-Tees. Forms were sent home with students. Also SMS's online store can be found on the Graphie-Tees website <>. Purchases of PE clothes or spirit wear can be made online until Friday, September 15, 2017 or dropped off at school until Friday, September 8. 2017. Orders will be delivered to the school and held in the main office. The school will alert individual students when their orders are ready for pick up.


Due to a glitch, families were not able to add/update their information or sign up to volunteer for PTO committees at the beginning of the school year. You may now access the directory and PTO committee signups at <>. Please do so at your convenience. We are pleased to offer this online directory to SMS families, and we depend on you as committee volunteers. Thank you!


The staff appreciation chairs are gearing up for a wonderful school year as we spoil our wonderful staff! If you would like to become a part of our committee to be called upon on a monthly basis to send in food or goodies for our events please take the time to sign up for the online directory. Once approved, you will then be allowed to sign up as a volunteer for the staff appreciation committee and any other committee that you choose. Our first event will occur during the week of the October 23rd Student-Led Conferences in which dinner will be provided during one of the evenings. Please be on the lookout for a sign up to be sent out for this event in mid-October. Also, we are in need of individually wrapped hard candy (e.g., Lifesavers and Jolly Ranchers ) for the staff lounges and bathrooms. You may send it into the main office. Please make sure that it is marked for the PTO. Thanks for your help!

Earn cash and supplies for Schmucker Middle School.

No need to spend extra money. Make your existing purchases count towards cash and points for our school!

1. Labels and Coupons: Look for these labels and coupons on products you buy. Cut and send them in to school with your student. These can be turned into any teacher or the front office. These can actually help Schmucker PTO raise hundreds of dollars!!

- Labels For Education is phasing out of their program but you will still see the coupons/labels on many of their products. Keep clipping as long as you can!!

- Box Tops For Education coupons are easy to clip and are worth $0.10 each. That may not seem like much, but they sure add up!

2. AmazonSmile:

Do all of your regular Amazon shopping, but use the AmazonSmile website. AmazonSmile has everything Amazon has to offer. Before shopping start from the link below. Schmucker PTO will earn 0.5% of your purchases.

Welcome new and returning families! For those of you who have not heard of us we are an anonymous group of parents who assist those students needing a "hand up" as referred confidentially by Gretchen Kujawa, our school's Youth Resource Officer. Items that the Angels have provided for our students in the past include zippered binders, sweatshirts, shoes/boots, pants, etc. As the weather begins to change, our requests for items typically increases. Please consider helping the Angels with a monetary donation so that we may continue to serve our students in need. If you would like to help, you may send in a check to the Student Services (guidance) office. Please make the check payable to "SMS Angels." All donations are tax deductible. Superintendent Dr. Thacker will give his State of the District address, and we will be discussing the topics for the remaining 2017-18 meetings. All parents are welcome to attend.

(The P-H-M Forum is made up of parent volunteer representatives from each of the P-H-M schools and usually meets the first Wednesday of each month of the school year with Dr. Thacker and various P-H-M administrators for topical school system discussions. While the number of voting representatives is limited for each school, all Forum meetings are open to anyone with a child enrolled in the P-H-M district.)
