LASE Update 2/18/2016

Thank you to Springfield, Rethink, and SpedTrack for hosting last weeks CASE Hybrid Conference. I think everyone who was able to attend would say it was great information and a great location. CASE does offer a recording of the conference which can be purchased on the CASE website.

The next regular LASE meeting will be March 4th back at our regular location at McAlister's. We hope to see everyone there! Remember we will not be holding a regular April LASE meeting due to the National CEC conference being held in St. Louis.

For our May meeting we have Ernie Trakas, Attorney from Mickes Goldman O'Toole LLC, presenting to our group. In order to give him some guidance on a topic to prepare for us I am in need of your input. Please let me know any legal topics you might want to hear more about by clicking on the following link...and hopefully I didn't make another mistake and this link should work this time!!

If you are lucky enough to be retiring at the end of this year or you know of someone who is retiring and have not yet emailed me please let me know by email to We will celebrate those retiring with a yummy treat at our May meeting.

MAP-A Updates

Your district test coordinators recently received an email with some 2016 data clean-up procedures for MAP-A to help your district prepare for the Spring upload of data for this year's accountability measures. The data clean-up window is March 1-11. The Spring testing window will be open April 4 through May 27. If you did not receive this information from your test coordinator here is the link to the procedures.

Updated Manuals Released/February 15, 2016

Is your district updating any curriculum or testing materials? Do you have older materials that are still in good shape that could be used by other districts? If you do have any items to donate that may be of interest to other districts feel free to email any details to and I will share with those interested. I have at least one district who is interested in seeing if they can round up any extra math or reading curriculum items.

The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently released their report, "Special Education: State and Local Imposed Requirements Complicate Federal Efforts to Reduce Administrative Burden" The fact that there are lots of paperwork burdens is not shocking to any of us, but the report will be helpful someday if IDEA is reauthorized.

If the need arises to cancel a regular LASE meeting due to weather I will attempt to get an email out to everyone with sufficient notice. You are also welcome to call, text, or email me to check the status of our meeting if needed.
