PCHS Pirate News
July 29, 2022
Message from Dr. Jones
Greetings Pirate Families,
We are roughly four weeks away from kicking off the school year. The month of July has flown by and I am finally realizing my days of sleeping until 7a.m. are over. My hope is that the summer vacations have everyone recharged and ready for the school year. I would like to provide some brief information to help prepare for the start of the school year. Please review the newsletter below to find information regarding the beginning of the school year schedule, registration, key upcoming dates and about the reminders and changes with breakfast and lunch.
We are committed to providing an excellent education and experience for all students. I am excited about starting the school year focused on our three building goals. We have aligned the three building goals to everything we do.
PCHS Building Goals for 2022-23
Focus on developing the Essential Skills for all students.
Making sure all kids have a relevant and engaging experience in the classroom.
Focus on Assessment for learning in the classroom.
We want to make sure every student feels safe and has a sense of belonging. Each student will have the opportunity to provide us feedback through the beginning of the year student survey. Our goal is to take the results from the survey and have conversations with students about items we can address to make each and every student feel a part of Pirate Nation. (See attached questions "Belonging Through A Culture of Dignity" by Floyd Cobb and John Krownapple) Our move into the new high school development is right on schedule. Students will not take classes in the new building until the second semester, however as parts of the building are complete in the Fall there will be opportunities for students and parents to possibly see the building. Our goal is to have some type of open house or nights where students can learn more about where their classes will potentially be once we are approved and allowed in the new space. With the new addition to the high school may come new challenges that we are not aware of yet. We look forward to your partnership as we navigate moving into a new building mid-year.
I feel really confident in the direction of the high school as we plan, organize, and discuss the Real World Learning Initiative. Our goal is to have opportunities and experiences that will help all kids make sound decisions as they prepare for their post-secondary experience. I hope to see everyone at Back to School Night on August 24th from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. There will be informative workshops from building staff and myself to ask questions regarding school initiatives and or concerns for the school year.
Please take time to enjoy your family and friends the final few weeks of the summer. My two sons are home in the summer and I must say I am worn out, literally but I wouldn’t have it any other way. With that being said, I will continue to communicate key information as the start of school gets closer. Please do not hesitate to reach out about things provided in the newsletter.

Breakfast and Lunch Update for 22-23
According to state law, students will have to pay for lunch and breakfast.
This year, breakfast will be provided before school from 7:00 a.m.-7:25 a.m. in the North Cafeteria. There will be a grab-and-go station after the first hour for students who arrive late or participate in activities such as band practice before school. We have worked diligently to make sure our bus schedule arrives in time for all kids to have the opportunity for breakfast if they choose so.
You can send lunch money with students for their account - Dropbox is located in the FRONT OFFICE.
Or, you may also use K12PaymentCenter.com to pay for meals online.
Please visit the FOOD SERVICES web page for more information about the cost of meals, menus, and Free/Reduced meal applications.
Summer Pirate Plunder Activity - You Can Still Participate!
There is still time to participate in our Summer Pirate Plunder activity!
The activities here provide students the chance to learn, reflect, connect, and rev up for the upcoming school year. While participation and the extent to which you work through the Pirate Bingo Board is completely up to you, a back-to-school ice cream social will reward you for your motivation and time.
To get involved, all you need to do is save your own copy of our Pirate Bingo Board and share it with
Dr. Lani Rae Bowen, Instructional Coach, by Monday, August 22nd. When you accomplish one of the boxes, check it off by highlighting it and feel good about your work! Keep going. You have this! Get bingo by completing five in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Clicking on the link for each square (B1, for example) will automatically link a bookmark to that portion of the doc for you.

Pirates ROCK Character Trait: CITIZENSHIP (August)
Pirates ROCK (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) is a program designed to surround our families with examples of strong character traits through school experiences, at home, and reinforced in their community. Each month our community focuses on a specific character trait and students are recognized for exhibiting these traits: Self Confidence, Pride, Responsibility, Citizenship, Compassion, Individuality, Self Control, Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, Honesty, and Cooperation.
