OHVA Student Council
· There will be a Student Council Informational Meeting on Friday, September 15, at 1 p.m. All students in grades 9-12 are invited to attend. Complete this survey to register to attend the informational meeting. The link will then be added to your schedule in the Online School. The meeting will be recorded for those that cannot attend and Mrs. Spencer will email the recording to all high school students after the meeting.
· ALL OHVA STUDENTS IN GRADES 9-12 ARE INVITED TO JOIN STUDENT COUNCIL AS REGIONAL MEMBERS!!! To join student council for the 2023-24 school year, email the following information to Mrs. Becky Spencer at rspencer@ohva.org:
• Your first and last name
• Your grade (9, 10, 11 or 12)
• Your county (not country – we all live in the USA – I need the name of the county you live in)
• Number of years you have attended OHVA
· Student Council FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) provides answers to the most frequently asked questions. Check it out!
· Regional Student Council Meetings will be held online starting in October. You will receive an email from your region advisor with further details once you join as a regional member.
· Leadership positions (called Core Officers) in Student Council require a SIGNIFICANT time commitment. This goes above and beyond student council regional membership. There are requirements and guidelines in place to ensure the leadership team is successful.
- To run for a leadership position, core officer candidates must be regional student council members and form a group called a “ticket”. All four candidates, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, will run and campaign together. There are no exceptions to this requirement.
- Core Officer Responsibilities provide an overview of what each officer position entails.
- Core Officer Guidelines are in place to provide a firm foundation for the success of the Core Officer Team. Exceptions to these guidelines will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Contact Mrs. Spencer to discuss possible exceptions.
- Mrs. Spencer will host 5 “Build a Core Officer Ticket” meetings online to provide opportunities for students to meet others interested in leadership positions. Complete this survey to register to attend.
- The president of each ticket must email Mrs. Spencer the name of each person on the ticket and the office each person is running for before 12 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023.
- Mrs. Spencer will verify each student’s eligibility on the ticket and will send an email to verify if he or she is eligible to run for a Core Office.
- Record a Campaign Commercial that is 5 minutes or less. (There will be no exceptions to this rule.)
• Each ticket can record on their own or meet with Mrs. Spencer online to record a commercial.
• Send Mrs. Spencer the link to the recorded commercial before 5 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023.
• Mrs. Spencer will email all commercials to the student body on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
• Students will watch the commercials and cast their vote by midnight Thursday, October 5, 2023.
• The winning officer team will be announced on Friday, October 6, 2023.
• Mrs. Spencer will meet online with the winning officer team sometime on Friday, October 6, 2023.
