Mr. CK's Message - Welcome Back, Let's Do This!

Our student Bobcats returned to the "pride" last week, and this week they are already well into learning content. Students are reading, creating, writing, solving, building, sharing, and engaged in content area coursework. I've seen culture maps in social studies, safety labs in science, greetings in French, numbers in Spanish, greatest common factors in math, short stories in reading, and color wheels in art. Buffett teachers and students are not wasting any time getting right into learning.

Plus, 7th and 8th grade students are already trying out for football, volleyball, and cross country. Auditions for 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade show choirs and the all grades fall musical are on September 1st and 2nd. Student Council (all grades) applications are available in Bobcat Dens and due this week. There are so many ways to get involved at Buffett.

Let's keep learning and growing, Bobcats!

Welcome New Bobcats - 5th Grade Day A Success!

We spent a whole day dedicated to welcoming our newest Bobcats to the Buffett family. Thank you to Buffett's staff and our new and returning families for making this day a success! Our Bobcats are doing so well because of this collective effort.

Buffett's Reading Garden Update

Kindness Rocks Project

A Buffett family's Girl Scout Troop adopted our reading garden over the summer. The troop painted rocks with inspirational messages to add a whimsical touch to Buffett's reading garden. The troop also did some weeding and planting to bring the project together. The outcome is magical. Thank you!

Officer Dickey and Remi

Have you ever wondered about K-9 police? Have you wanted to see a police dog? You are in luck! OPS works with the Omaha Police Department to let us work with Officer Dickey and his police dog, Remi.

Remi joined Officer Dickey when she was only 20 months old and now she is 5 and 1/2. She came to him without any training, even obedience training! Through all of their work and training together, Remi is now a specialize K-9 dog with the Omaha Police Department. She is specially trained to sniff out illegal substances such as Heroin, Methamphetamine, Cocaine, and Marijuana. Remi lives at home with Officer Dickey, his wife, and his two children ages 5 and 6 years old. His kids love Remi. In fact, they treat her like a family pet. She works at all OPS schools as well as one school outside of the district. Remi will continue to work until she is 8-10 years old, depending on her health. After that, she will retire from OPD and remain with the Dickeys. Officer Dickey said he would then start over with a new puppy.

Feel free to say hi, from a distance, to Remi when she is at Buffett! She is working when she is at school, so we do not want to confuse her by treating her like a pet. Officer Dickey is very approachable. Stop and ask him questions!
