More than just a VBS
It was great to know that many parents brought their children to our church for VBS. Volunteers spent the week with over 700 children, playing games, making crafts and teaching lessons focusing on God. Not only our church but thousands through out the nation will be doing the same this summer. I praise God for all that the children will learn about Him and His love for them.
My concern is VBS may be the only or one the few times during the year the children are taught about God. Far too often parents leave the job of discipleship to the church leaders or volunteers.
God has set men as the leaders of their family with the responsibility to train up their children in the way they should go. The time spent being the leaders of our family is what makes a family strong.
Raising children is a blessing along with terrifying and brutal at times. We are not perfect (ask my son and daughter). We don't always have the answers. We can not do it by ourselves. But God has given us resources to help us. His word, prayer, the church along with fellow believers. For example, there are life groups, parenting classes, your pastors and counselors. All of these have been a blessing to me through the years. The web has resources also, but keep in mind, it can not replace the intimacy of a personal connection.
God loves us, through His word He has given us directions to be better fathers. Which all of us can be by taking the time to learn then follow them.
Proverbs 22:6
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

8 Keys to Keeping Your Marriage Strong
On very rare and special occasions, we will see a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary. So many things have to fall into place for a couple to make it that long together that it can nearly be considered a miracle only God could have bestowed. Not only does the couple have to fight off all the sharp, poison-tipped arrows of life, but just the simple fragile nature of the human body makes it very hard for both to make it that far. It is pretty safe to say that, on their wedding day, most couples visualize being that pair that grows old so gracefully together. Statistics say that the odds are stacked against them, but it is a victory that can be won. It requires great passion from both in the marriage, and it demands a steadfast resolve to be the exception and not the rule. Here are 8 key ingredients to creating a strong, robust marriage that can go the distance.
