Big T Weekly

April 30th

A Message from Mrs. Walgast

Dear Big T Families,

Happy Friday! It is hard to believe that we have just 4 weeks of school left in this school year! So, those end of year activities are beginning to happen. Within the next two weeks, students will be taking the end of year iReady tests in reading and math. This will show their overall growth and achievement for the school year. We also will be holding field day and the jog-a-thon fundraiser with a twist.

The jog-a-thon fundraiser will take place on May 21st during your student’s specials times. Please see the additional information in this bulletin as well as your student’s backpack regarding the jog-a-thon. We will need three volunteers per grade level to help out with marking students’ shirts as they run laps and to be a “gopher”. So, look for a volunteer sign up coming out to registered volunteers. This information will come from our volunteer coordinator, Erin Lambert, on Monday, May 3rd. We greatly appreciate your support with this event as it is our only fundraiser in the past two years. Go Big T!

Another end of the year activity that will be taking place with a twist is field day. Field Day will be spread out over three days with one grade level participating in the morning and another grade level participating in the afternoon each of the three days. We will need two volunteers per grade level for these events. Again, please watch for a sign up for volunteers from Erin on Monday, May 3rd. This notice will go out only to registered volunteers.

Field Day Schedule:

Monday, May 24th: 9-11 am- 5th Grade

12:30- 2:30pm- 2nd Grade

Tuesday, May 25th: 9-11 am- 4th Grade

12:30-2:30pm - 1st Grade

Wednesday, May 26th: 9-11 am- 3rd Grade

12:20-2:30pm - Kinder.

With the exception of volunteers, we will not be able to allow parents or spectators who have not signed up as volunteers. Thank you for understanding.

5th grade parents, stay tuned as we are working on some special end of year activities for your students.

Finally, next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. We greatly appreciate PTA’s support with the coffee truck on Monday for a special treat and there are some other special things planned for our teachers too. Don't forget to please reach out with a special “thank you” to your student's teacher this week in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Stay safe and be well!

Most sincerely,

Sarah Walgast

Jog-A-Thon

Greetings Big T Families,

It is with great excitement that we announce the return of our annual Jog-A-Thon! This fun event is our school’s largest fundraiser with 100% of the proceeds going to

Big T’s Wellness Program.

Our school Wellness Program provides PE equipment, healthy incentives, technology, Expeditionary Learning (EL), scholarships for our Bolder Boulder group, and much more.

The Jog-A-thon will be held on Friday, May 21st during your students’ specials. Students will run, jog, walk, and dance around our beautiful track on the upper playground for 20 mins.

We are asking each family to gather donations from friends and family. We are not asking kids to go door to door. If each student raises $50, we can reach our goal of over $7,000.

Use the attached donation log to track your student’s donations, and the envelope to keep gathered funds safe. All donations need to be returned to the school by Wednesday, May 19th. ALL students will be provided a Jog-A-Thon shirt. Families are not required to bring in donations. Checks need to be made out to Big T Wellness or donations can be made online at www.Jogforbigt.com.

Due to Covid restrictions, volunteers will be limited to 3 per grade level and will not be allowed in the school. Sign up is first come first serve. You can sign up online using this link https://forms.gle/GwKbxdCq6x5oyYF79.

We look forward to this fun event. Thank you for your support.

Water bottles

With the warmer weather please remember to send a water bottle with your student every day. We cannot drink from the water fountains so a water bottle is a necessity. The front office does not have any more bottles to hand out to students who forgot theirs at home.

Annual Student Registration

It is mandatory for the PRIMARY guardian to do the Annual Student Registration (formerly Annual Family Update) and update all information including emergency contacts, phone numbers AND district permissions for the upcoming school year. It takes 10 minutes to complete. Please do so today. I have attached instructions. Your application is not complete until you have hit the RED SUBMIT button AND CONFIRM button.

IF you have moved and need to update your address: During ASR, you MUST upload a copy of your utility bill or top page of your lease if you are changing schools (OR email it to your students current school today) to complete the address update.

I have also attached Parent Portal instructions if you need help accessing Portal. Please remember the ASR can ONLY be done by the primary guardian.

Note...upcoming 6th graders MUST have their Tdap booster. Please do this before August 1st, 2021. Once your student has received this booster, please send a copy of the updated immunizations to their 6th grade school.

Thank you for your immediate action!

Important Vaccination Information

Hello Big T families!

Just a reminder, Colorado state regulations require all students entering 6th grade in the fall to have the Tdap vaccine (a combination vaccine booster for tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) Please have your child immunized before the start of the school year. Please consult your healthcare provider with any questions you may have.

If you choose to be exempt from Immunizations, read on!

Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, the process of filing a nonmedical exemption will change. There will be two ways to file a nonmedical exemption.

  • File the certificate of nonmedical exemption WITH a signature from an immunizing provider, OR
  • File the certificate of nonmedical exemption received upon the completion of our online education module. Here is the link to the module:

    https://www.dcphrapps.dphe.state.co.us/storyline360/story.html

  • Parents of students in grades K-12 claiming a nonmedical exemption must file one annually." Nonmedical exemptions expire June 30 each year. If you submit a nonmedical exemption on or before June 30, it will not be valid for the upcoming school year unless you signed the exemption during early registration.
  • Parents of students in preschool or child care must file nonmedical exemptions at 2, 4, 6, 12 and 18 months of age. These exemptions expire when the next vaccines are due or when the child enrolls in kindergarten."

* This process will have to be completed every school year.

I have attached the certificate of non-medical exemption if you choose to have an approved practitioner co-sign the form with you. You will need to provide the signed copy of the certificate to the school.

If there is a medical reason for the exemption, please complete the certificate medical exemption (also attached) and have an approved practitioner co-sign. This only has to be done one time.

Please bring all immunization records or exemption forms into the LEAP office.

Thank you and let me know if you have any questions!

Heads Up!

With the change in the weather, the hats came back out, and now is a good time for parents to be on the alert for head lice. Head lice are a common childhood affliction. All places where children get together are places where head lice can be transferred. Clean hair and home are no guarantee that head lice will not find your child. Periodically check your child’s hair for nits (eggs), which can usually be seen long before lice can be located. Nits are small white to tan particles found in the hair that look a lot like dandruff, except that dandruff is loose and can be brushed from the hair, whereas nits are attached to the hair shaft and cannot be removed easily. Lice are very small (flea sized) and do not like light, so they can be hard to find. If your child is experiencing itching of the scalp or you see something in the hair and are not sure what it is, feel free to stop by the health office and allow us to check with you! Thank you!
