MATH Update
Hello all!
We are nearing the final stretch of fourth grade!!! With that being said, we are wrapping up our geometry unit this week and will begin our final unit covering personal financial literacy. Over the last ten months we have lived, learned, laughed, grown, studied and made so many marvelous moments together and I am so proud of all my students.
May is a very important month. Not only are students wrapping up fourth grade but they will use every thing they have learned and use it to rock the STAAR test. The Math STAAR test is scheduled for Monday, May 13th. All of next week we will be reviewing for the test and making sure students are ready to use all their testing strategies.
After the STAAR test we will be counting down the days with continued review of all fourth grade concepts focusing on areas of fact fluency and problem solving.
With summer right around the corner a much needed break is near. To keep up with math skills all of our online programs (Education Galaxy, XtraMath, Prodigy) we’ve used in class will still be available for students to use at home as practice during the summer and I encourage student to still practice their fluency.
It has been my privilege to teach your child and I wish you all a wonder and well deserved summer break!!

READING/WRITING Update
From Mrs. Dungan
Writing-Students will be completing their final writing assignment this month. Students are taking the freedom to write seriously. Students may bring this home to work on. The due date is May 17.
Reading-We are preparing for the final STAAR reading test on May 14th. Students can practice on Education Galaxy at home for some extra preparation.
School is quickly coming to a close. Be sure to keep your family reading and writing over the summer. Join a reading program in town to earn rewards and keep a writer’s notebook to record life as well as other ideas.
Finally, if you clean out your children's book shelf I would love to grow the classroom library some more. Feel free to donate them to Mrs. Dungan.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES Update
In Social Studies:
We will finish up our study of Texas History in the upcoming weeks as we look at Texas in the 20th century, the cultures and pride of Texas and the six flags that have flown over Texas. This semester our critical reading questions have looked more like STAAR test questions to help support our students ability to read and look back at text to find main ideas, supporting details and apply what they have read.
In Science,
We wrapped up April looking at adaptations, inherited and learned behaviors.
As we finish the school year, we will circle back to review and make deeper connections between the content areas we have learned this semester.
Thank you for your support and sharing your child with me this school year!
