Weekly Update
September 2, 2022
New Phone System: Our new phone system is operational at this time. We are using both until we are sure everything with new phones is working correctly.
TMS PA System: TMS PA system which is original to the building no longer works. Currently have no bell system or way to communicate with the entire building. Asked for quotes on replacement. The best quote came from Blades out of Kokomo for $56,000. We are planning to replace it now, since this a building safety and security concern. We will roll that expense into the TMS project.
Permit in Hand: Our permit came in the mail this week from the DNR as mentioned earlier. Still working with RL Turner and Schmidt on a start date. Hopefully dirt will move the week of September 12. The rendering below is an example of the what the space will look like.
IUK Meeting for the 3E Grant: Christine Nicoles and I attended the first meeting with IUK, Maconaquah, Frankfort, and Northwestern to discuss the 3E grant. We are ahead of the rest, by having Christine already in place as our college and career counselor. She is meeting with junior and senior students during their advisory period to assist them in their pathway plans.
Meeting with Co-Alliance: For the last few months we've been looking into setting a gas tank for our activity busses. Currently we drive our activity busses to Speedway to fill them up since we do not have gas on site, this is something we pay Mark Weaver a good wage to do instead of his regular job. There will continue to be a need for gas, since all activity busses must have a gas engine. Co-Alliance who we contact for diesel fuel provided us with a quote for a gas tank and new card system to track who is filling up. Looks like it will cost us under $10,000. The other company quoted $81,000. Co Alliance will supply the gas tank (if we contract with them for gas), we will have some cost for installation, as well as the APP based fuel tracking system (each driver given a four digit code they send from a smart phone or iPad when fill their bus with fuel). Co Alliance has experience installing gas tanks at other school corporations and is aware of regulations in our world. This solves two problems for us, first a gas supply, and an updated fuel tracking system. Current system is original to the bus garage and cannot be updated.
We are fully staffed at this time with the exception of food service.
2023 Budget: John Sayers and I are working on the 2023 budget. At this time our K-12 enrollment is 1431, with pre-school we are at 1464. With that number we have approximately $500,000 in new money that will start coming in January. More information to share soon.
Track Resurfacing
Track Resurfacing started this week and should be completed by Wednesday. We can use the walk on the surface as long as it is dry and where we've placed our turf pieces. The field will be used this weekend and on Monday night.
