A MESSAGE FROM MR. LUCITA

Dear Jaguar Band Families,

The main theme for last week's newsletter was “Thank You”! We want to continue to say "Thanks!" to our parents and volunteers for everything they have done and for all of the great things yet to come! We also want to thank our SLT, Drumline and Color Guard for pulling together a quick performance to send off our JHS Jaguar football team for their first Varsity Game!!! Congrats to them on their victory over the Lockhart Lions!

This week the theme for our newsletter is going to be “Are you ready”!

Are you ready for the first day of in-person school? Many students will be participating in “virtual” school and many will be participating in “in-person” school. Whichever you chose, please take a close look at the schedule and make sure everyone is ready for their band classes. The daily schedule has changed and will be different starting Monday!

Are you ready for in-person school? We want to let everyone that will be starting in-person classes know that the band program will continue with their high standard of COVID-19 protocols. We will continue to rehearse outside using our current policies. If and when we do rehearse inside, the students will be a minimum of 6 feet apart and will wear their masks at all times. We will also use other measure such as wiping down and sanitizing rooms and equipment, creating traffic flow patterns, and designating specific locations for equipment.

Are you ready for our first football game? This week is our first football game and we are super excited! If you have not already done so, I encourage you to purchase your tickets as soon as possible! Johnson Band and Color Guard members do not need tickets! Tickets are for family members that would like to attend the game. The tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday and are destined to sell out quickly! Please follow the links in the emails sent this week with instructions. Here are two additional pieces of information that may help!

1. You will need to spell your student's name with ALL caps.
2. Many have indicated that the page says tickets are sold out; however if you click on the link anyway it will allow you to purchase your tickets. This may change on Monday!

This is a week of many firsts for this year, and we want to make it great! Let’s make it a great week of school, rehearsals, and performances!

#JOHNSON:thisisus

Have a great week,

Mr. Lucita

Other things you will want to know to be ready for this week!

  • Instrument storage: Students attending in-person will be able to put their instruments in the instrument locker room. Mr. Malik is assigning lockers to students and will manage the check-out and flow of instrument storage. Only instruments will be allowed to be stored in lockers. Lockers will not have locks. Students must enter and exit through doors designated by Mr. Malik.
  • Water jugs: in-person band students will be able to store their jugs in the band hall in designated areas. However, students must bring jugs already filled with water. Students will not be allowed to fill their jugs at the band hall.
  • After school rehearsals for in-person band students: While the band hall is usually a place for band students to hang out, due to COVID, students will not be allowed to linger in band hall in between the end of the school day and the start of marching band practice. Please know that there is plenty of shaded seating areas in the courtyard.
  • Summer uniforms for game: Khaki shorts will be issued Monday evening. Students can get their shorts before (4:30 p.m.) and after rehearsal (8 p.m.) but not during rehearsal. However, parents are welcome to pick up their students shorts while band is in rehearsal. Parent volunteers will be located outside. However, due to COVID, Band and percussion shirts and guard summer uniforms have been slightly delayed. Uniforms are expected to arrive before the game on Thursday. Distribution will be announced as soon as they are received but may have to take place on game day. Thanks in advance for your understanding and patience!
  • Band Send-off: Parents are welcome to send off the band before they head to their first game on Thursday! Details regarding specific locations and times to follow soon!

Welcome to New McCormick Middle School Head Band Director

Football Game Information: Volunteering, Live stream games, Reserved parking, and Jag Swag!

VOLUNTEERS

Please know that we LOVE how many parents are offering to volunteer this year to help with pit crew. Unfortunately, due to COVID and in order to follow district safety regulations, we have been limited to only eight people that can designated as Pit Crew and receive free admission to the games.

Please know that other parents can assist with any unmet pit crew needs or chaperoning RR breaks but those volunteers must purchase a ticket and will not be able to return to stand seats after assisting. Ticket-holder pit crew or chaperone volunteers must remain with the band.

  • All volunteers at Shelton games must purchase a ticket. (*this requirement does not apply to the designated 8 Pit Crew volunteers)
  • ALL volunteers will be required to fill out the COVID protocol google doc listed on the athletic booster website on the day they volunteer. This MUST be done for every game.
  • All volunteers must wear a mask at all times.
  • All pit crew and chaperone volunteers located near the band must wear their issued band volunteer shirt.
  • If volunteers arrive during school hours, they will also be required to check-in at the school front office. The front office will verify that volunteers filled out the form.

Pit crew volunteers should contact Clover Clamons at pitcrew@johnsonbands.com to inquire about volunteering and to obtain their volunteer shirts

All other volunteers, including chaperones, should contact Ida Musgrove at president@johnsonbands.com to inquire about volunteering and obtain their volunteer shirt.

Watch Live Varsity Games

The band will only perform at "home" games (and the Lehman "away" game). Fans can watch all home and away games at http://vypelive.com/web/team/view?id=6600. Please feel free to share!

Reserved Parking Spots

The South parking lot at Shelton Stadium is a reserved parking lot for Varsity Games. We are selling the reserved parking spots to anyone who might want one. This will guarantee you a spot until kick-off. All information regarding the parking spot is located on our website.

These policies pertain to all Varsity, JV and Freshman home games. You do not need a ticket to get into the JV & Freshman games but volunteers MUST be on the sign-up sheet in order to get in. You do need to purchase a ticket for Varsity games.
