Class news for Jan. 20 - 23

Welcome Miss Carrell!

We have a student teacher with us until mid March. She has written an introductory letter below. I have inserted a picture of her below, but cannot get it to rotate correctly. She's still cute any way you look at her!

Dear Parents and Students,

Hello, I am Miss Kimberly Carrell. I will be joining Mrs. Taylor’s class as a student teacher for the next 8 weeks. I could not be more excited for this experience. I feel very privileged to have this opportunity at The Discovery School. I am greatly looking forward to getting to know each student and helping them to become lifelong learners.

I wanted to write to you all to let you know a little about myself. I will be graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies K-6 in May 2015. I attended my freshman year of college at Lipscomb University and have completed the last three years at MTSU. I have grown up in Murfreesboro and loved every minute of it.

I have always dreamed of being a teacher. I want you to know that the opportunity to be a part of Mrs. Taylor’s fourth grade class is something I feel very honored to have. I look forward to all that I will learn from the community at The Discovery School.

Once again, I am looking forward to getting to know each of you!

Sincerely,

Miss Carrell

Announcements

The coin drive was a HUGE success! Students raised enough money for every classroom teacher to have $104.00 to spend at the book fair! Mrs. Svarda always comes through for us and the children are AMAZING!

Our book fair is scheduled to open January 26th. The theme this year is Oceans. Mrs. Svarda always puts so much of herself into this event. We have an awesome media center because of she cares so much and is constantly researching new media formats and fun ways of learning.

Our chili cook-off is coming up in February. You should have received a colored half slip form asking if you are attending. If you plan on coming, please send the back the registration slip, along with the payment.Check the PTA newsletter for more details.

Finally, I want to say a special thank you for all the wonderful gifts and gift cards I received at Christmas. I have finally rounded up the thank you cards from a missing teacher bag - only have 5 of them... so I will deliver these cards tomorrow. I am still enjoying the gift cards. My husband really likes the restaurant ones. Hahahaha!

REPORT CARD UPDATE

As you hopefully noticed, I sent a revised report card home today. There was an error in the first one because the mini-projects that I put in went to the upcoming quarter instead of the second quarter as they should have done. If you log onto Skyward, you will see the grade as well - fully updated in the system. I am so sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Fortunately, most students' grades went up a bit with the addition of project grades. If you have questions, please email or call me.
