A Note from the Principal
Hello Thomson Families!
Well, it is officially Spring Break Week, but I know it doesn't really feel like it as we enter our third week out of school and are under the 'stay home' order. While we are all working to get used to this new, temporary normal, I want to remind you again to 'breathe' and remember you are a parent first. This is something I remind myself of daily with my own daughter, I am her mom, not her teacher and while we do take time each day to practice academic skills, we spend far more time each day creating, playing, reading, being outside, and snuggling. My first job with her is to make sure she is happy and adjusting to our new normal.
I read a post this past week from another principal somewhere in America that helped me as a parent as well. He/she said, "This thing we are all a part of, it's living history. Our children are all a part of this, and it will be talked about for generations to come. Schools are closed; sports are cancelled; people are quarantined...on a GLOBAL level. The best thing your children can do is keep a journal over the next 5+ weeks. Handwritten, typed, in photographs, or drawings...record the events, day to day activities, fears and feelings. Let them make a video journal if that's the media they prefer. As parents, let them interview you, be a part of it. When it's all over, save it/store in a safe place for them. They will share this with their children and grandchildren. Help them create a tangible, primary source of their own history."
Elena and I each started a journal this week. Some are just what we did, but other times it is about how we are feeling which has lead to great conversations. When my husband gets home (he is an 'essential worker'), she is excited to share with him which makes us all smile.
Speaking of smiles...I have loved all the pictures that have been emailed to me or shared on our Thomson PTO Facebook page. Please continue to share what you are doing! Below are just a few from Virtual Spirit Week.
Below is also a digital link to the Kindergarten Resource packet for this week. These are also available in a printed version at the food distribution sites. Again, know that we are here to help your child and you in any way we can! We are all in this together and we will get through this together!
Stay well,

Musically Speaking with Mr. Romanik
Hello Thomson Parents!
I see that some of you were able to check out the video of Five Little Muffins that was included in last week's Smore. If you haven't looked at it yet, consider going back and showing your child. I would even love to see a short video of any of our Thomson students doing it at home if you are feeling extra ambitious!
For this week, I have a game of Music Bingo that you can play while you are at home. You can "win" by doing horitizonal, vertical, or diagonal lines, or by getting all 4 corners. After you've "won," keep having fun and making music at home and see if you can complete all the activities. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding any of the Bingo activities, and don't be afraid to share either on the Thomson PTO page or by emailing me at mromanik@davisonschools.org.
As a reminder, all of these activities, including Music Bingo, are merely supplementary and are totally optional.
Please remain safe and remind your student that Mr. Romanik loves and misses them.
A Technology Note from Mrs. Lockrey
Hi Thomson Teddies!
I hope you are all doing well and I miss you! If you are looking for free learning websites, here is a list of good websites for some reading fun (see the picture below). I see that two of them are ones that we have worked on in class...Star Fall and Abcya. Remember these all all free and optional for your use.
I can't wait to see you again,
Ms. Lockrey
For the Love of Reading with Mrs. Campbell
Hello Thomson Teddy Families!
Happy Spring Break! This week as you get ready to read a story take a few minutes to flip through each page and look at the pictures. Make predictions and take time to talk about what is happening in the story. Let your child share his/her thoughts and ideas. This will help them prepare to hear or read the story by giving them an idea of what is going to happen. It also allows them to share what they know or don’t know about the topic. After your discussion read the story and enjoy this special time with your child. Doing a “book walk” will help your child connect with the story and pay attention even more closely as you read!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Campbell
Keep It Moving with Mr. Hall
Hi Thomson Teddies,
One thing we start off each PE lesson with is a warm up and stretching. Did you know that you can do this at home too? Start with a quick run around your house (get outside if you can). Then follow our stretching routine by counting to 10 with each of these stretches:
- Hamstring
- Butterfly
- Side to Side Sitting Stretch
Then get your blood pumping with these activities, try to do 10 of each:
- Rocket Ship Jumps
- Jumping Jacks
- Sit-ups
- Push-ups
- Curl-ups
I hope you are staying active and getting outside as much as you can.
Stay active,
Mr. Hall, PE Teacher

Breakfast, Lunch, and Resource Packet Locations
Due to Governor Whitmer’s “Stay-At-Home” order, we must make the following adjustments to the District’s practices when it comes to our distribution of meals, supplemental curriculum packets and the anticipated return date for students.
Food Distribution Sites
In order to keep our staff and volunteers safe, we are restructuring the way we will distribute meals beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24. We will only be providing meals on a drive-through basis from 12:30-2 p.m. at the following locations:
- Central Elementary - Enter at the Bus Loop off Lexington on the west side of the building.
- Gates Elementary - Enter at the Parent Drop-off Loop on the south side of the building.
- Siple Elementary - Enter at the Parent Drop-Off Loop on the southwest side of the building.
- Davison Middle School/Hahn Intermediate - Enter at the Hahn Staff Park Lot at Clark and Dayton streets. Distribution will be at the southeast side of the building (near gymnasium entrance).
- Davison High School/Davison Alternative Education - Distribution will take place between the high school cafeteria and the Alternative Education building at the southeast corner of the high school.
Please remain in your car and one of our staff members will hand you the meal(s) for your student(s).
It does not matter which building your student attends; parents can pick up one meal per each child age 18 and under at any site. In order to help us continue offering these meals, please, limit the number of meals you request to the number of children you have in your household so everyone can benefit from this service.
Also, we will no longer be able to deliver meals to those unable to make it to a site. We apologize for this inconvenience but we are no longer able to continue doing this.
Supplementary Resource Packets
Remember a new supplementary resource packet will be available each Monday. The links have also been emailed out by Michelle Edwards and are in the link at the top of this newsletter. If you have any questions about this packet, please contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Miller.
