Stage 4 Covid-19 Protocols
It has been great seeing the hallways full of happy students returning to in-person learning. The wonderful increase in students attending in-person learning, 5 full days a week, has been made possible by changes to guidelines from IDPH. These guidelines have decreased the minimum amount of space required between students to be 3 feet, and notes that a school bus can safely transport up to 50 students at a time. Keep in mind though, that the definition of a close contact, which is an individual who has been less than 6 feet away for a cumulative 15 minutes or more in a 24 hour period to a known individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, has not changed. The transportation department has created procedures for cleaning and disinfecting between routes. This means that although D203 is following the safety guidelines presented by IDPH, more students may be affected if someone tests positive for COVID-19.
To minimize the number of students needing to self-quarantine due to being a close contact, it is very important to remember to monitor your students for signs of illness and to keep them home from school until you have spoken with a physician. Please remember, if one of your student’s are showing any signs of illness, all students in that family must remain home until they have met the D203 guidelines to return to in-person learning.
Thank you for helping keep all of our students and staff healthy as everyone returns to school!
Switching to Online Instruction
We will work with families on an individual basis to make arrangements to temporarily be Online only for quarantine recommendations related to COVID or other unique medical situations.
We will NOT be able to accommodate changes to Online only for vacation or single day absence purposes. If you choose to go on vacation and it impacts your in- person attendance during this time, you will need to remain on-line for the remainder of Trimester 3.
As you can imagine, there is a tremendous amount of planning that goes into the daily instruction for each session, and unique to Online only, materials must be sent home ahead of time. For this reason, among others, we cannot accommodate daily changes for students to access online learning for reasons other than COVID related situations or other unique medical situations.

Attention 5th grade parents!
The 5th grade celebrations committee has been working hard behind the scenes to try and make sure the kids' milestone graduation from elementary school is memorable and special. Even though there was a bumpy start of this year, we can hopefully celebrate the finish of their Elmwood career in a festive way. We will need parents' help with making these things happen!
Each year, there is a video that we show on the last day of school that shows highlights of students' time at Elmwood.
For all parents: We would like for you to submit some candid photos you have taken through the years to include in the video. Please email photos to Elmwood5thgrade2021@gmail.com that you would like us to try and put in the video. Fun Run, Field Day, Halloween parades, Valentine parties, and anything in between. Final day to submit photos is May 1, 2021.
In the video, we feature a side-by-side photo of each student from when they began kindergarten and of their 5th grade school photo. **If your child did not attend Elmwood for kindergarten, please send an email to Elmwood5thgrade2021@gmail.com with a comparable photo from kindergarten of your child, along with their name. If your child attended Elmwood for kindergarten and had a photo in the yearbook previously, we will have yours already, so no need to send one. Last day to submit a kindergarten photo is May 1, 2021.
Soon there will be information coming about yearbook dedications, yard sign purchase information, volunteer opportunities, and more, so please be on the lookout for future info. Thanks in advance for your help!
