Special Assembly Monday February 1st
It is with great excitement that I share with you, that thanks to the hard work and important connections of our own Gina Kohler, Beth Harris, Robin Byrski, and Ann King! J On Monday, February 1st, we will have a surprise assembly for our Elms students.
Our local hometown celebrity and recent Flushing Grad, Manny Torres (recent top 24 finalist on the current and final season of American Idol) will be here for an all-school assembly. We will have him hidden in Todd’s office in the gym and then call the students down. Once the students are seated we will play his recent audition from the show for the benefit of those who have not yet heard about him. He will then come out to surprise them, sing a few songs and talk about his journey and the importance of having a dream, following through with that dream, and of course, how school fits into the big picture of it all. He will then pose for a few pictures with staff as Elms will be his last visit of his elementary school tours on Monday.
Please join me in thanking our staff for setting this up and getting the ball rolling for all of us to benefit from celebrating the recent success of one of our own Flushing Raiders!
Please remember that we are trying to keep this a secret, if possible, to surprise the kids.
He is scheduled to arrive here between 2:00 and 2:30 pm on Monday afternoon. Once we have him secured we will have Norma start calling classrooms down starting with 6th grade.
