Dear Parents / Carers,
Phew! What a week it has been!
First of all I would like to thank you all so very much for following our procedures and helping to keep us all safe. As I'm sure you are aware, schools have had an immense amount of (often contradictory) guidance and we are continuing to do so which means that I may need to change procedures at short notice. Please bear with us if that is the case.
One of the things that we realised very quickly last week was that the staggered finish times were causing more of a problem than they were solving and therefore we made the decision to revert to our normal finish times. This has helped with the flow of people around school and means that children and parents are away from the school site much more quickly so thank you for your understanding.
To aid flow in the mornings we would like all of Key stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5, and 6) to arrive at 8:45 am so that parents can drop and go as quickly as possible. Families with younger siblings can also drop at the earlier time so that they only need to come on site once. Key stage one will continue to arrive at 09:00 am and EYFS at 09:15 am. Please contact the office if you need further advice.
We have been amazed by how well the children have come back into school and settled into their new classes. They have been wonderful and we have had a fabulous week with them. We have also been pleased with how well they have all done academically and that is credit to everyone that has supported homeschooling over lockdown. Whilst there is some catch-up work to do, this is nowhere near the disaster that the media would have us all believe.
You will be able to see what each class will be learning across the year on the Curriculum pages on our website as well as the class newsletters on the class pages - please do have a look as we update them.
Finally, I hope you have had some time for some uninterrupted reflection of life over the last few months. Please do call if you have any doubts about whether your child should be in school. The office is closed to visitors but you are welcome to phone or email to leave messages for teachers who will call you back when they can.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Karen Williams

St. Mary’s Kirk Fenton
A fond farewell
A message from Reverend Simon:
As you may have heard over the summer, I will be leaving Church Fenton and the Tadcaster Benefice on 21st September as I am going to be the Vicar of Holy Redeemer Acomb and Nether Poppleton with Upper Poppleton.
Church Fenton really has been a wonderful place for me and the family to live over the past 3 and a bit years. We are so grateful to everyone for the wonderful welcome that we received, for the love that has been shared with us, and for the way that we have felt a real part of the family. Whilst we always knew that our time here was for a limited time, we will be very sad to leave Church Fenton and St. Mary’s. I have also thoroughly enjoyed being part of Kirk Fenton Primary School and I will miss being part of life there. We will continue to live in Church Fenton until work has been completed on our new vicarage which will probably be around 8-10 months.
My farewell service will take place on Zoom on Sunday 20th September. Everyone is very welcome to come along – ID 986-101-2744 // Password 377646. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to gather together and do the normal farewells and parties etc.
If you need to contact church for any reason, please get in touch with Rachel Hughes, our Administrator, on 07545 516949.
God bless,
Simon
Reverend Simon Biddlestone
This year’s Harvest celebrations at St. Mary’s Kirk Fenton, St. John the Baptist Kirkby Wharfe and Ulleskelf and the other churches in the Tadcaster Benefice will not be able to take place as normal this year. Our service will take place on Zoom (ID 986-101-2744 // Password 377646) on Sunday 13th September at 10.00am. Everyone is very welcome and please join us if you can.
During the service, we normally collect people’s generous donations. St. Mary’s Kirk Fenton is collecting for St. George’s Crypt Leeds and will be open on Saturday 12th between 10.00 & 2.00; St. John’s is collecting for the foodbanks in Tadcaster and Selby and will be open on Saturday 12th between 10.00 & 12.00. All of these organisations are in desperate need of our support this year and would welcome donations of tinned and dried goods, packets and toiletries.
