News From Our 5th Grade Classroom 12/19/14
What's Happening in the Classroom
In math, we will continue Chapter 4-Division and Fractions. The first 10 lessons will review and practice long division. We will then focus on fractions-comparing and contrasting sizes. Some students will perform enrichment activities using Think Through Math during this time in regards to fractions. I will send home a note if your child will be completing these activities in class.
We will start our new writing unit-Memoirs (personal narratives). We will look at some examples and start the pre-writing process the first two weeks after break.
In Reading, will return to Benchmark and learn about Comparing and Contrasting. We will also start re-leveling for Fountas and Pinnell.
In Social Studies, we will start learning about the 13 English Colonies. Chapter 5 focuses on the New England Colonies. We will learn about their ways of life and the general economy of this set of colonies.
There is a new spelling list for next week.
Last day for AR tests this grading period is January 15th at 10:00 am. Please encourage your child to read over this long break.
After break, we will have our student teacher Miss LaBrash join us for 8 weeks!
