Parent Newsletter - AUGUST 2017-
"Creating a Community of Learners"
From the Desk of Mrs. Harrison
Thank you to our teachers and staff for your hard work preparing your classrooms to provide engaging and supportive learning activities from Day One.
Thank you to our students for coming to school from the first day eager to learn and willing to put forth their best effort. It has been a true joy!
Thank you to our parents and community for always being so supportive of our school and teachers, and overwhelmingly patient and flexible as we work out any kinks we find during our first few weeks back.
As we look forward to the rest of the school year, our faculty is committed to ensure that each and every child is provided multiple opportunities to excel academically, physically, and socially. We know that we can only accomplish this through a true partnership between the school, our parents, and the students. We invite you, our families, to join us on this journey!
You can help your child achieve his/her personal goals through the following procedures and activities:
*Check and sign your child's agenda every night and the Bronco folder every Monday.
*Review your child's homework after it has been completed and help make any needed corrections or changes.
*Arrive at school by 7:50 a.m. to give your child adequate time to be in the classroom and ready for instruction by 8:00 a.m.
*Maintain open and frequent communication with your child's teacher.
*Volunteer and get involved! We need volunteers in the classroom and in PTSO. When your child sees you involved in school activities, he knows you care :)
We also provide several avenues schoolwide that parents can stay abreast of all the events/happenings: 1) log onto our Brooks' school website @ http://www.cowetaschools.org/brooks/ ; (2) join Remind101; (3) follow me on Twitter @BrooksBroncos and (4), ask to join our Brooks Facebook page.
Through ongoing parent communication, we truly believe that together we ensure each child's success at Brooks. I look forward to working with each of you, and getting to know your family throughout the course of the year.
From our first day back in 2017, we are officially GAMEON! and ready to tackle the year!

Lots of News from the Media Center!
August 2017
Welcome back everyone! It’s hard to believe that this is the beginning of another school year! I have a lot of new ideas for our media center and can’t wait to share them with the students.
Mark your calendars! Our first book fair will be the week of August 28th-September 1st. This is also the week we celebrate Grandparents’ Week at Brooks. We can’t wait to see all the parents and grandparents who come to eat lunch--families are what we’re all about :) We hope you definitely visit the book fair in the media center.
The book fair will open each day at 7:30am-3:00pm. All proceeds from the book fair do go to buy books and materials for our media center. If you would like to help volunteer with the book fair, please let me know (sherry.copeland@cowetaschools.net) and I will pass your along your name to my book fair chairs.
Brooks 2017-2018 yearbooks are on sale now for $25.00. You will also receive a free icon if you order before September 1st. The cost of the yearbook will go up to $27.00 on October 6th. Yearbooks can be ordered online at www.jostens.com or through order forms which will also be sent home.
Many of you have signed up your child/children for the Birthday Book Club (BBC)in years past. This is another fundraiser that helps purchase books for the media center. BBC forms will be sent home soon and they are also available on the Brooks website under the media center tab. http://www.cowetaschools.org/brooks/
I will begin media orientations with grades 2nd-5th the week of August 14th and the media center will be open for checkouts. I can’t wait for students to begin coming to the media center to check out books and for media lessons!
Many students have taken the STAR test and established their goals for AR (accelerated reader). To check your child’s progress in AR, you can use the “Homeconnect” link. Students log into Homeconnect the same way they do to take AR test. https://hosted408.renlearn.com/51144/HomeConnect/
I have set up a REMIND text account for the media center this year so I can send reminders about media events. If you would like to join my account please text @brooksmed to 81010.
Thank you for your continued support of Brook Media Program.
